Job Summary
The Senior Controls Engineer I designs control systems for industrial material handling solutions. Includes development of specifications, device layout drawings, control schematics, PLC logic, and solutions that deliver exceptional customer value. Works closely with the overall project team to design systems meeting the project requirements. Uses creativity and innovation to tailor the standard product offering to meet customer needs. Leads large projects and directs the work of assigned team members. Performs duties with minimal direction.
Responsibilities Based on customer specifications and scope documentation, designs system layouts, schematics, and control devices, usually for large projects or multiple small projectsPerforms diverse, specialized, and complex work involving significant accountability and decision-makingLeads large projects by defining and issuing work to assigned team members or runs multiple small projects with minimal directionCreates all project documents according to internal processes to ensure that designs meet customer expectationsPrepares schematics and specifications for control panel fabricationMaintains a progress schedule that meets project milestonesProvides documentation and support to the field wiring teamCreates Programmable Logical Control (PLC) programsWorks closely with the Software Engineering team to integrate control solutionsPerforms on-site commissioningPerforms system validation according to scope documentation and project requirementsDirects assigned team in the field and assigns priorities consistent with project needs; reports progress to project and engineering managementEnsures that all project checklists and electronic documents created by the project team are complete and archivedProvides input to the project lessons learned processReviews customer specifications and scope documentation for quotation and clarificationPerforms process checks and design reviewsProvides back-up for Engineering ManagersFollows engineering standardsDomestic travel up to 40% in North America, mostly within the Continental United States. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering field, or equivalent experienceMinimum of 8 years of related experienceExperience with industrial HMI and SCADA systems, Allen-Bradley controls/controllers and Schneider PLCsIn-depth knowledge of industrial automation systems, including HMI and SCADA systems, Allen-Bradley controls/controllers, and Schneider PLCsProficient with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical or other related electrical CAD systems such as EPlanAbility to lead a team and accomplish project goals effectivelyAbility to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and deadlinesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsTeam-oriented and collaborativeCreative-thinking and problem-solving skillsAbility to learn new technologiesSelf-motivatedAbility to work non-traditional hours
