About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Our Lihir operation in the Engineering and Design Team is now recruiting for the role of Senior Coordinator – Engineering. Reporting to the Superintendent – Engineering, the successful candidate is responsible for overseeing and managing the Site Engineering team and provides guidance and support to the site engineers and technicians. The Site Engineering Team will provide field services as an extension of the home office engineering. The primary responsibilities are to assist with resolving drawings, specifications and design discrepancies on site, evaluating and resolving potential field problems, and providing clarifications during construction. They will also provide coordination of survey services and provision of as-builds.
The role will have the following responsibilities but are not limited to:Manage the development and delivery of site-initiated Engineering Services projects and ensure deadlines and budgets are met and provide regular progress reports on the sameOverall coordination and delivery of all work completed by the PMO Site Engineering TeamSupport the development of studies and scoping, including site investigations, assistance with specifications, surveying, and temporary solutionsCultivate relationships with subcontractors and vendors, ensuring quality labour and parts for the project Innovate processes and reduce costs through continuous improvement initiativeCollaborate across departments to identify and maximize cross-capability opportunitiesImplementation of Newmont-owned PNG Development Plan and development of the onsite teamEnsure work is conducted safely and efficiently, adhering to the company's WHS procedures.Integration with PMO construction team, PMO offsite team, Operations, Project Owners, Department Managers, Maintenance and Asset teamsReview technical engineering documentation including datasheets and specifications and other engineering requirements (standards and codes)Continually review issued construction documents for adequacy, completeness, inter-discipline interfaces etc. Find solutions to conflicts in technical documents or by conferring with the home office. Report any deficiencies or shortcomings to and coordinate suggested solutions with the Construction Delivery Coordinator and/or Project EngineerProvide engineering construction support to the off-site PMO engineering team and report on the sameProject management/delivery governance, quality and consistency, ensuring alignment with the Newmont processCoordinate site Engineering involvement in constructability review meetings, HAZARD StudyCo-ordinate drawing office to ensure as-builts are ready for filing upon project completionFirst point of contact and coordination of responses for all RFI’s and TQ’s on sitePerform Critical Control Verifications (CCVs) in line with department requirements
Qualification, Training & Experience
Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management or related discipline, or equivalent experience in the workplaceRequired years of similar experience: 10+Broad mining relevant work experience across all the mining lifecycle Prior experience leading a team in a diverse cultural environment in a mining contextA proven track record for the delivery of project objectives and established targetProficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skillsComputer proficiency in MS Office suiteSound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skillsSelf-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomouslyExcellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlinesStrong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training
