Compensation includes a base salary of $175,300.00 - $292,100.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Job Description

Cox Enterprises is currently looking for a Senior Corporate Counsel, Regulatory Operations to join our team in Atlanta, Georgia. 

The Role:

We are seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel, Regulatory Operations with regulatory, policy, and operations legal experience with an emphasis on telecommunications law to support Cox Communications, Inc.  The incumbent must have strong analytical skills and the ability to digest and operationalize federal laws and regulations.  They must have experience with FCC, FTC, TCPA, and/or consumer protection laws.  The Senior Corporate Counsel provides legal guidance and counsel to corporate stakeholders, state regulatory teams across a national footprint, and advises on judicial, political, legislative, and regulatory legal matters and proceedings in primarily federal venues.  They must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a business environment and within a multi-disciplined legal department. This position reports to the Assistant General Counsel, Regulatory Operations.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to respond to the fast-paced needs of an ever-changing regulatory and legal landscape.  They must have experience working cross collaboratively with multiple teams, including Atlanta and DC public policy office, to ensure wide-spread internal touchpoints.  The Senior Counsel will also have a demonstrated ability to identify, explain, and help operationalize newly enacted legislation and regulations into business requirements.  In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience engaging and managing outside counsel in an effective and efficient manner.

Responsibilities:

Advise corporate and state and regional personnel at all levels on regulatory legal issues impacting CCI’s day-to-day residential and business segment operations, providing interpretation and guidance on compliance with federal laws, rules and regulations. 

Provide timely review of service requirements/terms and new products for regulatory issues; review of customer materials, including M&Ps.

Interpret, advise on and support formulation of company position in connection with federal (primarily FCC) and state rulemaking proceedings and orders.

Review comments and/or provide inputs for comments filed on behalf of company and/or industry in connection with federal and state proceedings, working with policy teams, and outside counsel and relevant business leads on drafting and/or review. 

Support for regulatory proceedings/or agency investigations/enforcement on regulatory legal matters.

Lead operationalizing of legal requirements for cable, telephone, mobile, and Internet segments.  

Support tax group and regulatory team on issues related to taxes, fees, and surcharges applicable to business and residential services.

Provide legal advice and guidance on regulatory requirements impacting new product launches, lines of business and potential acquisitions of regulated entities.

Qualifications: 

Juris doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one state. 

5+ years of legal experience.

Regulatory and/or policy experience in cable, Internet, mobile, telecommunications, and/or consumer protection.

Business-minded attorney with strong initiative, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage outside counsel.

A focus on client needs with a commitment to timing, quality, and client service.

A business partner, who likes working side-by-side with business teams and is receptive to opposing views.

A strong work ethic and the ability to prioritize and follow through on numerous projects simultaneously.
