Lenovo is seeking a strategic and business-oriented Employment Law Attorney to join the Company’s Legal Team, to provide employment advice and counsel to human resources (HR) professionals and other business partners. This position will handle a wide range of employment law issues affecting all stages of the employment life cycle, including relating to recruiting, hiring, worker classification, employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence, workplace accommodations, wage and hour, employee benefits, internal investigations, pay practices, immigration, employee privacy, terminations, and equal employment opportunity.
Essential Functions
* Support and advise senior management, HR and business teams, primarily in North America, on all areas of employment law and related company policies, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Title VII, ADEA and other federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination. Participate in and influence the decision-making process with appropriate clients and stakeholders.
* Identify and assess legal risks and opportunities within the employment area and advise accordingly. Independently handle legal matters and projects ranging from basic to complex. Ensure that appropriate clients and stakeholders are involved in the decision-making process.
* Handle complex legal matters or projects, including managing outside counsel on employment related disputes.
* Draft and negotiate employment law documents, including restrictive covenant agreements, separation agreements, settlement agreements, and similar.
* Advance the skills and knowledge of our HR partners. Working with our HR partners, identify policies and processes that can be standardized or streamlined to facilitate compliance with applicable laws. Develop and help to implement HR policies and procedures. Conduct training for HR professionals and other business partners.
* Conduct and/or advise on compliance-related investigations.
* Ready and able to participate as a subject matter expert and team player on complex strategic projects.
* Primary focus is on the company’s North America workforce and operations; some involvement in global executive-level matters, and with local lawyers outside North America in ensuring best practices in the global workplace.
Qualifications and Experience
* Law degree from an accredited U.S. law school and admission to the Bar.
* 10+ years of employment law experience required.
* Experience in handling employment matters before administrative agencies.
* Experience in counseling corporate clients on employment matters and risk management, preferably working in an in-house environment.
Preferred:
* Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication and writing skills.
* Ability to plan and prioritize workload, meet deadlines and strategic objectives, and follow through on matters handled.
* Experience with benefits, executive compensation and international employment law issues.
* Capable and at ease working as a team player and independently.
The preferred location is Morrisville, North Carolina or Chicago, Illinois.
