Job Description
The Office of the Chief Counsel to the Mayor and City Hall is City Hall’s legal team, serving as in-house counsel for the Mayor’s Office. Working alongside the Law Department and the General Counsel offices of City agencies, the Office provides legal guidance to the Mayor and City Hall leadership to help advance the administration’s policy priorities. The Office also provides guidance on compliance, ethics, freedom of information, legislation, and policy matters.
The Office of the Chief Counsel to the Mayor and City Hall is seeking a dynamic, public service-minded lawyer to work closely with senior policymakers. The Senior Counsel will report to the Chief of Staff to the Chief Counsel. Key tasks will include:
- Providing legal analysis and guidance to City Hall staff to advance mayoral initiatives;
- Handling a wide range of legal matters on behalf of the Mayor’s Office, including legislation, ethics matters, litigation strategy, investigations, and contract drafting;
- Analyzing potential conflicts and ethics questions for the Mayor’s Office, including gift and travel requests;
- Drafting and reviewing contracts, releases, licenses, and other agreements on behalf of the Mayor’s Office;
- Working with senior administration officials on various transparency projects, including lobbyist reporting and compliance with the Freedom of Information Law;
- Advising agencies that report to the Chief Counsel; and
- Coordinating with senior policymakers.

Qualifications
- At least six years of relevant legal experience, such as government, prosecutorial, and/or law firm experience;
- Excellent analytical ability and practical judgment;
- Ability to independently manage a large portfolio of work while balancing many simultaneous priorities in a fast-paced environment;
- Strong and concise communication skills;
- Commitment to public service;
- Demonstrated ability to be a team player in a dynamic and fast-paced environment;
- Dedication to client service and willingness to be responsive; and
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
