Job Summary

The Senior Counsel-Engines will provide legal advice on a wide range of legal and compliance issues to support the Head of Legal-Engines.  They will primarily support the Head of Legal by providing technically competent, timely advice on a variety of legal issues that arise with regard to the Engines business. They will also act as a local Legal contact point for the GKN Engines business based in the US. 

Job Responsibilities

The role will primarily involve:
•    Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex international contracts with both customers and suppliers.
•    Supporting the Commercial team on customer engagements and the Procurement / Supply Chain teams on supplier issues.
•    Contentious matters with both customers and suppliers.
•    Regulatory issues


Due to the breadth of issues that arise, the role will also be required to assist with the following from time to time:
•    M&A, product safety, real estate, data protection, licenses / approvals required to fulfil customer contracts, investigations, compliance issues.
 

Job Qualifications


Required Qualifications

A juris doctor (JD) and an applicable state license to practice law are required. 10+ years as a qualified lawyer with US jurisdiction, including experience at a top tier law firm or as in-house counsel. Experience in US government contracting and compliance, including experience in FAR/DFAR Significant experience in advising on a range of highly complex technical legal and compliance issues.


Additional Qualifications

The ability to work efficiently on own initiative to get things done, able to identify, focus and prioritize key legal/compliance matters, to work under pressure and manage multiple stakeholders. A completer/finisher who can demonstrate work/life balance. A strong and independent personality, with the ability to operate on significant issues with little supervision but being able to recognize which issues require support or escalation to the Head of Legal. The capability to identify, work with and influence key internal and external stakeholders and be an effective and skilled communicator; experience in advising and working with senior stakeholders. Recognizes the importance of building effective relationships and establishing trust and a collaborative working relationship with colleagues both inside and outside of the Legal team; effectively manages and owns relationships with business colleagues and builds trust through collaboration. Integrity and courage; ability to challenge effectively and to deliver tough messages. Able to think laterally and has a track record of delivering business-focused solutions. Exercises good judgement and sound decision making even when not in possession of all the facts. Is adaptable, welcomes change and challenge and plays an active role in designing and implementing novel solutions. Understands how technology is changing our industry and what we can contribute to the strategy of the business. Ability to adapt and succeed against a background of change and uncertainty. Embraces and demonstrates the GKN 5 values. In house experience within a manufacturing/aerospace organization is strongly preferred.


Travel Requirements:

This role will require travel, domestic and international, up to 10%.
