What is the Opportunity?
As a Senior Legal Counsel, Canadian and Caribbean Employment Law, you will be part of the Global and the Canadian and Caribbean Employment Law Teams and provide employment law support to functional and business partners across the enterprise for Canada and the Caribbean. Employment law issues include common law and statutory employment laws, hiring, immigration, compensation, benefits, advice about single and group reductions in workforce, as well as privacy, disability (insurance) and human rights.
What will you do?
Provides efficient and effective advice and counsel to functional and business partners to assist in the management of legal and reputational risk involving employment-related issues at the enterprise level for Canada and the CaribbeanManages litigation for employment law disputes by identifying and assessing risk (legal, regulatory and/or media) and co-ordinating a strategy for the defence of sameManages the cost and performance of external counsel and assures cost effective and efficient delivery of legal servicesEnsures timely updating of all matters within with RBC Law Group procedures, reporting out internally on all matters as required and appropriate provisioning on all matters where the Senior Counsel is identified the professional responsible for the litigation and as required by FinanceAdvising on the application of labour and employment law and of collective agreements, including legislative developments.Manages investigations involving allegations of employee misconductAssists or leads ad hoc projects as directedWork collaboratively with other members of the Global and Canadian and Caribbean Employment Law TeamsWhat do you need to succeed?
Must-have
7 plus years of strong legal skills and knowledge–Demonstrates proficient knowledge in employment lawEnterprise mindset, ability to understand global issues and operate in a global businessAbility to build effective relationships with internal partners, regulators, and external counselStrong problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills and the ability to balance competing work demands and manage multiple prioritiesBachelor of Law degree from recognized law school, called to the Bar of a jurisdiction in Canada, and membership in applicable law society or bar associationNice to have
