The Trading Analyst position supports Crude and Feedstocks Trading Teams by providing commercial-related analysis, actionable market insights and building relevant, useful trading tools. The Commercial Team at MPC is a cross-functional organization that interfaces with a wide range of internal and external parties to plan, optimize, and execute the trading and supply activities of MPC with the goal of maximizing economic margin.
This Trading Analyst position is a growth opportunity for an initiative-taking individual that has a strong aptitude and a keen interest in a commercial career. The successful candidate will be an experienced analyst with relevant commercial experience and is a self-starter that thrives in a dynamic, fast paced trading floor environment. Supply & Demand modeling, market fundamentals analysis, trade floor experience and effective communication skills are critical.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelops a forward market view based on fundamental research, analytics, market intelligence and identifies specific, actionable trading strategies.Develops and manages commercial focused trading tools, dashboards, and reports.Leads development and execution of ad-hoc analytical reports and presentations as required by leadership.Acquires and maintains external and internal information, resources, and relationships to develop market intelligence. Hosts market outlook presentations from third party vendors.Backfills on Trading Desks and engages with external counterparties and internal resources to optimize and execute the supply & trading operations plan.Leads feedback discussions with Traders on performance metrics and underlying drivers for gains and losses.Develop methodologies to benchmark and track PnL from trading, supply, and optimization activities.Provides analytical support in the modeling and evaluation of new business opportunities/development.Education and ExperienceSenior Trading Operations Analyst
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline required.Five (5) or more years of experience in Commercial, Risk, Trading Analytics, Marine, Scheduling, or Marketing required.Experience with PADD 2 & 3 Crude/Refined Products Supply & Demand modeling and US Crude Exports/Imports preferred.Experience with subscriptions and data sets: WoodMac, EIA, Kpler, Energy Aspects, S&P Global, IIR, Eikon, MarketView preferredHigh proficiency in Excel. Competent in Power BI preferred.Lead Trading Operations Analyst
