Role and responsibilities

As a senior cryptography expert, you are responsible for overseeing the design, implementation and management of cryptographic solutions and initiatives across the organization. The role focuses on executing a comprehensive cryptographic strategy and roadmap (including tactical breakdown) as well as post-quantum cryptography migration projects. As a senior member of the cryptography team, you will also participate in the development of cryptographic policy supporting compliance with regulatory requirements, and evaluation of emerging technologies. In this position, you:

Lead the development and execution of an enterprise-wide cryptographic strategy & tactical breakdown and roadmap, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and evolving security threats.

Lead the quantum-safe project initiatives to identify, classify, assess & migrate critical assets.

Responsible for the development and integration of controls, inventory schemas, assessments and threat modelling frameworks for use in the quantum-safe migration.

Responsible for reporting migration status through to the business.

Consult and advise on the implementation of secure cryptographic solutions, including data encryption, key management, certificate management and public key infrastructure in conjunction with cryptographic developers.

Contribute to & review cryptographic policies, standards and baselines that govern data encryption, key management and secure communication protocols (2nd line).

Serve as a subject matter expert in cryptography, advising on policy updates to align with industry regulations (NIST, GDPR, CRA, NIS2).

Work closely with IT, product, legal and compliance teams to embed and enforce cryptographic best practices.

Provide expertise and guidance on cryptographic protocols and techniques to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Conduct training and awareness programs to increase understanding and compliance with cryptographic policies across the organization.

Stay abreast of emerging cryptographic trends, technologies, and threats assessing their potential impact on the organization’s security posture.

In this role you are positioned in the 2nd line Security organization in the Risk & Business Assurance (R&BA) department of ASML Corporate.

Education and experience

Extensive experience in the design, analyses and implementation of cryptographic algorithms and protocols.  Expertise in cryptographic primitives such as symmetric, asymmetric, hashing, digital signatures and key exchange mechanisms.  Hands-on experience with cryptographic systems for key management, certification authorities and hardware security modules.  Experience in the wider IT security landscape, including multiple (enterprise) environments is a must as well as having hands-on experience in Security Operations.

You have excellent influencing and interpersonal skills, being able to further develop infrastructure security within ASML by building trusting and long-term relationships. You are tenacious and possess the ability to overcome organizational resistance, as well as the ability to interact across all levels of the organization.

You are a self-starter, able to operate autonomously with little guidance. Last but not least, you are comfortable in starting up several projects at the same time without losing the overview and bigger picture.

The ideal candidate will also have:

Bachelor- or master's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Minimum of 10+ years professional experience with a focus on security and cryptography

Profound understanding of cryptographic algorithms, key management, encryption techniques, and hash functions.

Deep Knowledge of current security technologies, current and future developments, in-depth working knowledge of IT Risk/security frameworks and best practices, such as NIST Cyber security framework, ISF Standard of Good Practice for Information Security, IEC 62443, NIST SP 800 30 framework, ISO 27001/2 framework.
