Senior Cyber Threat Investigator

The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team. This role will support LinkedIn’s efforts to monitor, analyze, and mitigate abuse occurring outside of our platform, including on social media, forums, and other digital ecosystems. This role is essential in ensuring LinkedIn’s commitment to member safety and the integrity of our platform. A successful candidate will have a proven ability to develop intelligence collection operations, develop actionable insights from external source information, and collaborate cross-functionally to inform Trust strategies to mitigate abuse. Responsibilities: • Drive Trust’s off platform vendor intelligence strategy, focused on financially motivated cyber crime. • Monitor and guide vendor(s) outputs that track surface web and dark web activity for threats targeting LinkedIn and its members. • Develop and evolve existing internal intelligence products, ensuring timely threat detection, and reporting that is directly applicable to Trust anti-abuse efforts. • Analyze external abuse trends and generate actionable information that informs the Trust R&D team’s priorities and investments. • Work closely with Trust’s R&D, Legal and Policy teams to integrate off-platform threat intelligence into LinkedIn’s safety systems. • Develop scalable workflows, inform the development of tools, and build resources to ensure efficient and effective use of off-platform intel. • Support achievement of success metrics, including coverage of off-platform abuse, actionable intelligence reports delivered, and measurable threat mitigation outcomes. • Continuously research emerging trends, tools, and methodologies to refine LinkedIn’s off-platform abuse monitoring capabilities and maintain industry leadership. • Drive a culture of innovation, growth, and collaboration while fostering strong partnerships with external vendors and internal teams. • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with vendors and industry peers to enhance LinkedIn’s visibility of internet-wide abuse and ensure capability parity. • Produce high-quality reports and executive briefings on abuse trends and investigative outcomes, ensuring visibility and actionability. • Demonstrate professionalism and adherence to operational security standards while managing sensitive investigations. Basic Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, intelligence, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience. • 3+ years of experience in cybercrime investigations, threat intelligence, or Trust & Safety, with a focus on off-platform or OSINT-based investigations. • Strong familiarity with surface and dark web monitoring technologies and vendors, focus on operational security, and digital evidence collection. Preferred Qualifications: • Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline. • 5+ years of experience in off-platform abuse investigations or intelligence gathering. • Proficiency in OSINT techniques, attribution, and crafting polished intelligence products. • Strong technical acumen, with experience using tools such as Python, SQL, and link analysis software. • Familiarity with communication channels and behaviors of threat actors, including use of slang and technical jargon. • Fluency in additional languages (e.g., Mandarin) is a plus. • Proven experience engaging with cross-functional stakeholders, including Product, Engineering, Legal, and Trust teams. • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience managing executive-level communications. • A track record of fostering innovation and collaborating with high-performing teams across geographies and time zones. The pay range for this role is $127,000 to $207,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor. The total compensation package for this position may also include annual performance bonus, stock, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
