The Opportunity

Picarro is transforming gas utility operations with innovative solutions for methane emissions management, risk-informed leak prioritization, and pipeline asset optimization. As a Senior Data Analyst in Picarro’s Gas Business Unit, you will play a critical role in developing analytical tools, generating insights from complex datasets, and driving operational improvements.

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Climate and Safety Solutions, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to perform analysis, develop statistical models, streamline data workflows, and create actionable outputs that support internal decision making and customer outcomes.

This position is flexible within the United States, with a preference for candidates based near Santa Clara, CA (corporate headquarters) or Raleigh, NC.

Roles and Responsibilities

·       Data Analysis and Insights - Analyze large-scale sensor data, operational metrics, and geospatial data to identify trends, anomalies, and actionable opportunities. ·       Statistical Modeling - Develop and refine statistical models and algorithms to support emissions quantification, risk prioritization, and other operational applications. ·       Workflow Optimization - Build repeatable processes for cleaning, normalizing, and visualizing datasets to ensure accuracy and scalability. ·       Collaboration - Work closely with product management, engineering, and customer success teams to deliver data-driven insights and tools that support strategic initiatives. ·       Documentation and Reporting - Create clear documentation of methodologies, findings, and recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. ·       Support for Customer Outcomes - Provide analytical deliverables and visualizations that align with customer goals, either through internal teams or direct customer engagement when required.

Skills and Abilities

Statistical and Analytical Expertise - Strong foundation in statistics, including experience with hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and uncertainty quantification. Technical Proficiency - Advanced skills in Python, SQL, and Excel for data analysis and automation. GIS Proficiency - Experience with GIS tools (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial data management, analysis, and visualization is strongly preferred. Communication - Ability to distill complex analyses into clear, actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences. Problem-Solving - A proactive approach to tackling challenges in data quality, modeling, and process improvement. Customer-Centric Approach - A mindset focused on delivering high-value outcomes to customers, whether directly or through collaboration with internal teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related technical field. 5+ years of experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, or related roles. Proven ability to work with large datasets, including time-series and geospatial data. Prior experience in the natural gas, energy, or infrastructure sectors is desirable. Strong documentation and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly. Ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work in a dynamic environment.
