Monitoringthe health of the physics discipline in the UK & Ireland. Developing effective data science & statistical inference techniques to extract insights from different data sets.Designing and refining complex data workflows- primarily in Python - for project and programme work. Creatingstatic and interactivedata visualisations. Working with colleagues from across the organisation, as well asseniorexternalstakeholders,collaborating on projects andproviding technic alexpert isein data.Ensuring that Physics Insights adheres to best practice with regards to data security (keeping member data safe) .Projects you work on may include:Institute of Physics Impact Projects; deep dives into data relating to specific physics areas, such as the green economy, semiconductors,space-tech, orinvestment into physics-based industries . Physics Landscape analysisand horizon scanning ;identifyingand measuring physics research, students,intellectual property,and businesses - including finding ways of applying a coherent physics definition to the different datasets. Reporting and analysis of IOP membership and awards.Other ad hoc projects asrequired - the teamseeksto builda strong evidencebase relating to physics; we look to apply meaningful definitionsappropriate tothedomain andcreate datasets that allow us to discover new insights on what is happening in physics in the UK and Ireland. This typically involves collaboration with subject matter experts, creating repeatable data workflows, and analysing outputs, which may be used for IOP reports, programmes, and influencing activities.Who willIwork with?You will be p art of a specialist data insights unit- Physics Insights- working alongside another senior data analyst, and a data science manager. Invigorate strategic member and community engagement across academia and business.Proactively shape the debate on matters that the physics community cares about so that we influence stakeholders and stimulate action that makes a difference.You will also work with other departments at the IOP, including Policy, Membership, Communications , and the Executive team , and with external stakeholders such as members and partner organisations.Ideally, w e hopeyoullapply if your skills include: EssentialCriteria A degree in a numerate subject or equivalentData analysis skills obtained through educational programs or equivalent experience - particularly in statistical and machine learning techniques. Programming skills obtained through educational programmesor experience - preferably in python. Experience designingefficient ly codeddata pipelinesto allowforanalysis of datasets. Experience analysing structured/unstructured datasets, detecting issues & providing solutions.Experience interpreting and presenting data for reporting and interactive visualisations.An ability to communicate technical information clearly to a non-technical audience.Experience of measuring and reporting back on project targets and success criteria.The ability to work co-operatively with others to achieve common goals ; the confidence to listen and understand.
