Senior Data Architect - SQL, Snowflake, Cloud
_The Bank sponsors individuals for TN and H-1B transfers on a case by case basis._ **_Please note that this position is not open to anyone on a H-1B or F-1 student visa including those eligible for CPT/OPT or the Stem OPT extension._** _This role follows a hybrid work schedule; offering the flexibility to work remotely two days a week, while providing the opportunity for onsite and in person collaboration the other three days._ **FUNCTION:** Develops and maintains data models and data architecture designs. Plans, evaluates, recommends, and designs data models to ensure technology projects are cost-effective, compliant with enterprise policies and corporate technology standards and meet business and technology strategies. **Tech Stack – SQL, Snowflake, Erwin Data Modeler, DCAM** **POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Develop strong relationships with all data providers, data product consumers and other data stakeholders to understand design possibilities and data usage needs. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions. + Design and model data for cloud-based data architecture solutions using Snowflake as the primary data platform. + Develop and implement data modeling best practices to ensure scalability, performance, and reliability. + Design and develop scalable, high-performance data architectures on the Snowflake cloud data platform to meet the evolving business needs and data growth. + Develop and maintain documentation of the data architecture, data flow, data models and metadata for various audiences. + Support the creation of data assets, which may include a data model, associated metamodel, common business vocabulary, ontologies, and taxonomies, which will then be used to guide solution development and achieve consistency of data assets across the enterprise + Contribute to and communicate data management standards relating to the location, media type and cybersecurity requirements to facilitate efficient and secure management of all data elements + Collaborate with data teams to establish appropriate data access management approaches. + Ensure consumers have the information and resources they need to use the data products (e.g., access to data, interactive documentation to help them understand data operations, etc.) + Produce design artifacts with data modeling and other related tools. + Deconstruct user story into technical designs, map to existing reference architecture and create new architecture patterns for use cases that don't map into an existing reference model. + Participate in backlog grooming sessions with the data product team to ensure technical data solution and data models meet acceptance criteria. + Work closely with the data engineering team to ensure the implementation adheres to the design and any technical obstacles are identified and addressed. + Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. + Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. + Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. + Complete other related duties as assigned. **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:** + Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years higher education and/ or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years related experience + Experience with data modeling tools and other data discovery and management tools. + Experience with data modeling, preferably using Erwin Data Modeler tool. + Experience implementing data architecture and data integration concepts. + Experience with data architecture capabilities on multiple platforms including Cloud, SQL, and other industry standard applications. **IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:** + Minimum of 3 years data architect experience. + Experience implementing data governance practices. + Experience in FinTech. + Experience with Agile methodology and working on an Agile team. + Experience with Data Capability Assessment Model (DCAM). + The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF), Cloud Solution Architecture on Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Certification. M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $107,656.56 - $179,427.60 Annual (USD).
