Senior Data Engineer, Customer Data Platform

The Customer Data Platform team at Expedia Group is looking for a proven, entrepreneurial, hands-on technical leader who will define and implement the technical vision for our next generation of traveler data products that will power EG’s hyper personalized traveler experiences.

What You’ll Do

Define and own the technical vision and roadmap for a group of data products

Work with business and product leaders to understand their objectives and provide technical strategies and solutions to support their goals

Build traveler data products that form the foundation of personalization efforts at EG across user acquisition, marketing communications, in-app experiences, and customer support

Champion and exemplify an engineering culture of customer focus, engineering excellence, and continuous learning and improvement

Lead from the front. Build data products and pipelines using batch, streaming, and API technologies

Who You Are

A proven leader with a track record of synthesizing big data system architectures and influencing across engineering teams to turn their vision into reality

A data-focused engineer with a full stack perspective while having deep expertise in data architecture, big data technologies, and data product development

An entrepreneurial engineer who thrives in ambiguity, defines clear technical visions, has a bias for action, and works effectively across every level and function of the technology-driven organization

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or Equivalent related professional experience

7+ years of work experience in software engineering

3+ years’ experience in designing and implementing Big Data applications (data ingestion, real-time data processing and batch analytics) in Big Data, Spark Streaming, Kafka, Hadoop, Map Reduce, Hive

An expert in SQL (T-SQL/PL-SQL), ETL and data modelling

Server-side programming skills in multiple languages (Scala/Java and Python)

Has delivered successful solution using microservice architecture, OOAD and design patterns

Highly proficient with cloud computing platforms (AWS, EMR, Kubernetes, Docker)

Proficient with workflow management tools (e.g. Airflow)

A skilled practitioner of Agile/Scrum methodologies

Familiar with the e-commerce or travel industry

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $173,000 to $242,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.  Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
