As a Senior Data Engineer at Dealer Tire, you will be a vital contributor and technical thought leader of a team responsible for designing and implementing our Enterprise data lake, data model, and the data pipelines that feed our business and analytical systems. You and your teammates will collaborate with internal and external customers and our affiliate companies, empowering them to solve business problems and gain powerful insights using high-performance datasets, enterprise analytics systems, self-service tools, and other tools such as Snowflake, Alteryx, R, Python, and Power BI.
As a Senior Data Engineer, your essential job functions will include the following:
Collaborate with business and IT teams to implement a comprehensive and easily expandable enterprise data model based on business need.Be a thought leader on future data usage (Data Futurist) and a catalyst for converting data into a knowledge base.Proactively look for process improvements across software stacks and drive their implementation.Design and build robust, scalable, and high-performing data pipelines with real-time & batch design patterns across structured & unstructured data sources.Contribute to the design and enhancement of our enterprise data model, enterprise analytics systems, data marts, and data warehouse/data lake.When necessary, suggest new/alternative design patterns and diagnostic tools.Collaborate with internal and external customers, our affiliates, and other IT teams to define and implement a roadmap for the enterprise data model and the systems that support it, including the maintenance of consistent data definitions and documentation across multiple environments.Participate in and, at times, lead design and code reviews to foster team accountability and maintain a high standard of quality and adherence to establish patterns and practices.Build a deep understanding of our enterprise data, evangelize our data assets, and empower users to leverage data appropriately and effectively with self-service tools.Balance multiple concurrent projects both within your team and with other teams.Articulate ideas and architectural concepts clearly and concisely through verbal and written communication, and mentor team members in their ability to apply those concepts.Monitor and measure system and process performance and make corrections and/or enhancements where needed as part of a focus on continual improvement.Provide on-call/after-hours support for processes and systems owned by the team on a rotating basis.Other duties as assigned relating to data engineering not explicitly listed above.Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer (or comparable role) preferably in designing, developing, and documenting highly robust and scalable data pipelines.Strong experience in SQL (or similar languages) and querying databases.Strong background in various data pipeline tools.Proven experience building and deploying data models (including expertise with data warehouse design concepts such as star schema design, Kimball style, medallion architecture, etc.).Experience performing root cause analysis/reverse engineering on reports, datasets, and data pipelines to answer specific business questions, identify opportunities for improvement, or resolve system or process issues.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, high growth environment and manage multiple concurrent workstreams and priorities.Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field.Prior experience leading a migration from an on-premise database and/or analytics solution to a cloud-based solution.Experience implementing high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.Experience with any of the following technologies is a plus: SAP Data Integrator, Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Oracle Business Intelligence/Oracle Analytics Server, JD Edwards, DB2, Python, Power Shell, R, Amazon AWS (EC2 instances, Redshift, lambda functions, S3, etc.), Google Analytics, Google Big Query, dbt (Data Build Tool), Apache Airflow, Snowflake, Alteryx, Power BI, Sigma, Windows and Linux servers.Competencies Required:
