Harman is seeking a highly skilled Alation Technical Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of the Alation Data Catalog platform. You will work closely with stakeholders across the organization to understand their data needs and ensure that Alation effectively addresses those requirements. Your expertise in data management, integration, and cataloging will be crucial in driving data governance initiatives and promoting data-driven decision-making.
Responsibilities:
Implementation and Configuration:Lead the installation and configuration of the Alation Data Catalog platform, ensuring seamless integration with existing data infrastructure.Customize Alation to align with specific organizational needs, including metadata management, data lineage tracking, and data discovery workflows.Maintenance and Optimization:Monitor the performance and health of the Alation platform, proactively identifying and resolving issues to ensure optimal functionality.Optimize Alation configurations to improve data cataloging efficiency and enhance user experience.Stay up-to-date with Alation releases and implement upgrades as needed.Data Governance and Collaboration:Work closely with data stewards, data owners, and other stakeholders to establish and enforce data governance policies within Alation.Facilitate collaboration between technical and business teams to ensure that data definitions, standards, and lineage are accurately documented in Alation.Support and Training:Provide technical support to Alation users, assisting them with data cataloging, search, and analysis tasks.Develop and deliver training materials to educate users on how to effectively leverage Alation's capabilities.Innovation and Continuous Improvement:Explore and implement new features and functionalities within Alation to enhance data management capabilities.Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in data cataloging and apply them to Alation implementations.Qualifications:
Technical Skills:Strong understanding of data management principles, including metadata management, data lineage, and data quality.Experience with data cataloging tools, preferably Alation, and knowledge of data integration techniques.Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with data modeling concepts.Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation tasks.Communication and Collaboration:Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Proven ability to collaborate across teams and build consensus on data governance initiatives.Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex data-related issues.Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy and quality.Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.7+ years of experience in data engineering, data management, or a similar role.Hands-on experience with Alation Data Catalog is a significant plus.HARMAN is proud to be an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer.
