Senior Data Management & Privacy Lead

The Senior Data Management and Privacy Lead is a new critical leadership role within the Chief Data Office, charged with the strategic oversight and advancement of data governance, management, and privacy across the organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Data Officer, this role is responsible for aligning these critical functions with the broader business strategy, ensuring that data governance policies, standards, and processes are not only comprehensive but also rigorously enforced to maintain data quality, integrity, and regulatory compliance on both local and global scales.

This position involves leading multiple expert teams to drive the execution of key pillars within the Data and Analytics Strategy, particularly focusing on Strengthening Data Foundations and Embedding Privacy and Data Protection. As the principal advisor on data governance, the role demands an ability to integrate best practices with regulatory requirements, foster a culture of data stewardship, and ensuring data risk is collectively and effectively managed across the organization.

What you’ll do …

Provide strategic leadership and direction, fostering a culture of data stewardship and accountability across the organization.Oversee the development of robust data management practices, including data lineage tracking, metadata management, and the establishment of a centre of excellence.Drive transformational change initiatives, embedding data governance into the organizational fabric and ensuring continuous improvement.Function as the principal advisor on data governance, management, privacy, and ethics, bridging regulatory requirements with industry best practices.Enforce and collaborate with data owners to ensure effective execution of data governance, quality, and protection controls, ensuring data risk managed collectively. Track and report progress through metrics, providing evidence to senior executives and regulators.Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of data privacy, ethics, and data protection frameworks. This includes ensuring compliance with all relevant local and global regulations, embedding ethical data practices across the organization, and safeguarding the privacy and integrity of critical data assets.Drive the establishment and oversight of governance frameworks for advanced analytics (AI/ML), ensuring these align with global standards and best practices to rigorously manage risks, maintain transparency, and uphold ethical standards in the implementation of advanced analytics technologies.Mentor and develop a high-performing team of data professionals, guiding them to achieve excellence and align with the organization’s strategic objectives.

What we’re looking for…

Proficiency in data governance frameworks, methodologies, and best practices. Strong understanding of data management principles, including data quality, lineage, and metadata management. Experience with data governance and management tools and technologies (e.g., data cataloguing, data lineage, metadata management tools). Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to data governance, privacy, and security (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).Proven experience in a senior leadership role for a similar sized organisation with 10 years plus experience in data governance, management or related roles having similar scope.Proven record of successfully implementing and evolving data governance and management initiatives, improving data quality, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.Experience in analysing and interpreting complex data governance, data ethics principles, management challenges and developing practical solutions.Ability to effectively manage stakeholder relationships at all levels of the organisation (local and global).Project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and meet deadlines effectively.Leadership skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate teams, foster collaboration, and drive results.
