Senior Data Management Professional - Data Engineer- ESG

Our Team

The ESG Team provides our client with fast and accurate ESG data so that they can stay at the top of their game. Using innovative, collaborative, and client focused approaches to data extraction, aggregation, and standardization using cutting edge technology, the ESG data team is responsible for enhancing ESG content for the Bloomberg Terminal and Enterprise products. This includes company-reported and normalized metrics, industry-specific metrics, proprietary ESG scores, climate and regulatory data. Our ESG data is displayed alongside fundamental data, backed by news for context, and used to power a growing suite of sustainable finance products.

What’s the role?

The ESG Team is looking for a Data Engineer who can combine deep interest in data and technology with a passion in financial markets. In this role you will need to demonstrate a strong technical understanding of both workflow automation and sophisticated data analysis and business intelligence to drive meaningful customer outcomes. You will act as a technical leader by setting the strategy in achieving quality and consistency, and delivering scalable solutions across Bloomberg Data. You are expected to transform the responsibilities of the team and scale the impact beyond what's possible today.

As a Data Engineer you will apply your problem-solving skills to handle the data pipelines, automation processes and human-in-the-loop workflows that feed our ESG Data Products. In addition to the data pipelining work, you will analyze our data from an operational as well as product standpoint. This might be by building the associated ETLs or by designing prototype applications with our Engineering teams. You will be expected to lead projects, collaborate with Engineering and Product, and mentor junior members of the group who are looking to develop technically.

Proactively build strategies to analyze processes and data quality questions to ensure our datasets are fit-for-purposeFind opportunities and build automated solutions for ETL pipelines, human-in-the-loop data processing, and tooling to scale the growth of our productCapture feedback from internal and external workflow users including clients, vendors and global ESG teams, and synthesize this feedback into a meaningful action planUnderstand the software development lifecycle stages, and identify the right-sized solution for the right phase of a product’s developmentGet to know how data moves through a complex system and identify the best ways to constructively and safely expose it to stakeholdersLeverage technical knowledge of Bloomberg's proprietary or open-source stack to implement high-standard and innovative solutionsProvide mentorship and guidance to junior team members and contribute to their professional development
You'll need to have:4+ years of Python programming and scripting in a production environment4+ years of experience working with databases using SQLFamiliarity with various databases, schemas, modeling, as well as structured and unstructured formats (PDF, HTML, XBRL, JSON, CSV etc.)Experience in crafting and developing data quality metrics and reporting as a part of a bigger data architecture frameworkExperience in improving and automating workflows and processesHigh attention to detail and degree of shown decision-making and problem-solving skillsPowerful collaboration skills to work across departments and regions, excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when explaining technical processes and solutions to business partners and managementAbility to work independently as well as in a distributed team environment

We'd love to see:
Financial Markets experience including an understanding of the Sustainable Finance industryUnderstanding of Data Governance and Data Management, supported by industry certifications (e.g. DAMA CDMP, DCAM, etc.)Exposure to the Bloomberg Terminal, Bloomberg API’s or Enterprise Data productsProven understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) methodologiesKnowledge of sophisticated statistical methods and/or Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Natural language Processing in business use-cases Salary Range = 110000 - 170000 USD Annually + Benefits + Bonus
The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
