About the Role

*** This is an onsite position with five days per week (M-F) in office required at our San Francisco, CA newsroom. ***
 

MLex is seeking a reporter in San Francisco to cover the intersection of technology and the law, particularly privacy and data security regulation and other Internet policy-making and enforcement by the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Trade Commission.

The ideal candidate will have some experience covering technology companies, Congress, the federal court system and state or federal agencies; and will have enthusiasm for partnering with other reporters. MLex is a highly collaborative environment, and the reporter will frequently work with reporters focused on similar topics in Brussels, Washington, Hong Kong and elsewhere.

The job offers opportunities to break news on topics such as encryption, privacy, data security, net neutrality, facial recognition and other emerging tracking technologies, and to write in-depth stories about the implications of emerging technologies.


Responsibilities

Writing clear, well-organized news stories and analysis

Identifying current topics for articles/commentaries, including covering trials and similar scenarios

Coordinating with reporters and editors to develop coverage

Locating and organizing relevant information from public documents and other sources

Developing personality profiles and features


Requirements

Have a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or possess a legal background

Experience reporting and writing news

Have solid writing skills and a demonstrated ability to be proactive in shaping MLex’s coverage

Be able to demonstrate great research skills

Possess the ability to provide analysis of events and documents, illuminating context and big-picture trends

Salary Range: $82,500 - $86,000/annually

The salary range provided in this posting is the base salary range for California.$82,500.00 - $137,600.00
