Our marketing communications, market research and brand teams drive travelers’ familiarity and engagement with the United brand. Our loyalty team manages United MileagePlus®, building travel and lifestyle partnerships that customers can engage with every day, and works with our Star Alliance partners to ensure United can take you anywhere you want to go.

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Data Scientist provides senior data science efforts for United’s loyalty program, MileagePlus. Using some of the most comprehensive member data available in any industry, the data science team is responsible for discovering new opportunities to enhance the program and develop innovative products using insightful models that drive business outcomes. This person will be expected to provide the example which other data scientists on the team can follow to better produce outcomes for the business.

Approach Business Problems with Data Solutions:Communicate on business challenges and opportunitiesProvide insight into current data assetsEducate collaborators on opportunities to model insightsDig into business problems by experimenting with models that will need to be tested and validatedRefine existing models based on new data resources or changing business environmentsCommunication:Express the outputs of data science projects in a format that is understandable to business staff who are less-versed in technical detailsInnovate on critical metrics and provide expert consulting to business partners in collaborative meetingsWork with technology managers to troubleshoot data challengesDevelop strong presentation visuals for easy absorption of resultsMentorship:Provide recommendations to team members on Lead by example, documenting success and failures alike in order to build long-term knowledgeInfluence decision-makers and peers alike toward a more data-centric view of problem-solving

D in relevant fieldExperience working with large datasets for the purposes of statistical analysis such as supervised or unsupervised learningExperience with database interface tools and statistical programming languages such as SQL, Python, SASExperience with Python, especially for data manipulation and cleaning, and for model training and evaluationMust be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorshipSuccessful completion of interview required to meet job qualificationReliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the positionWhat will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):Masters degree in Statistics, mathematics, or business analytics1 additional years of experience in - the travel industry, marketing/loyalty studies, or ad techExperience with Reinforcement Learning model(s)Experience with Causal InferenceExperience training and deploying models (with AWS)Experience with Pyspark.Experience presenting findings to business managementExperience mentoring on methods for development and evaluation of statistical modelsExperience with Tableau, Spotfire, Power BI, or other visualization tools
