Job Description
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will bring in software engineering best practice to facilitate data science product development and deployment. You will leverage your expertise in quantitative methodologies and software development to solve complex optimization problems and simulate intricate systems for our supply chain and manufacturing division. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT and operations, to design and implement robust analytics solutions at scale within production systems. You will also engage in an ad-hoc consulting role to support various projects across the organization. Our data science team is involved in every project phase, from ideation and business case development, through data discovery and preparation, to model development, prototyping, and facilitating adoption.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Design, lead, and document the development of analytics applications, platforms, and processes to unlock value through scientific insights and empirical analysis
Develop end-to-end digital solutions, including automation of data workflows and integration into existing systems, ensuring seamless deployment for operational use
Build and disseminate in-depth domain knowledge of emerging trends in operations research and analytics, fostering collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders across the organization
Independently design and develop innovative quantitative methodologies with a focus on operations research, including nonlinear mixed-integer optimization problems and simulations of complex systems, to drive data-driven decision-making and influence key initiatives within the company
Apply operations research techniques to create tools for process optimization, resource allocation, and supply chain management, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness. Engage with customers and stakeholders to understand their needs, requirements, and expectations, ensuring alignment with business objectives, particularly in the context of supply chain optimization
Stay updated on current best practices, methodologies, and technologies in operations research, software development, and analytics landscape, including compliance and ethical considerations
Design and develop front end for various small to medium level applications
Required Experience, Qualifications, and Skills:
Master’s degree in operations research, engineering, applied mathematics, software engineering, or a related technical field with four years of relevant experience in operations research and software development projects
Ph.D. in operations research, engineering, applied mathematics, software engineering, or a related technical field two years of relevant experience
A strong software engineering mindset, emphasizing the importance of producing high-quality code, documentation, and effective software solutions
A data-centric mindset, focusing on how data can be leveraged to create actionable insights and drive business value, particularly in supply chain contexts
Hands-on knowledge of operations research methodologies, including but not limited to convex programming, mixed integer programming, stochastic modeling, and simulation techniques
Proven hands-on experience with programming languages such as Python, Julia, R, or similar, with practical skills in libraries relevant to operations research solutioning (e.g. CPLEX, Gurobi, XPRESS, scikit)
Familiarity with data preprocessing and feature engineering for both structured and unstructured datasets, data modelling and SQL
Experience in front-end development & deployment, e.g. Dash, Streamlit, JS, React, posit, AWS or similar
Knowledge of experiment tracking methodologies and tools to monitor model performance and maintain reproducibility
Good communication skills to effectively convey complex information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience working within Agile frameworks and methodologies
Experience with software architecture, reusable components and infrastructure
Preferred:
Knowledge of best practices in CI/CD to streamline software deployment and lifecycle management
Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Docker Compose for application deployment
Experience deploying analytics solutions and optimization models in cloud environments, particularly AWS or similar platforms
Exposure to simulation software and techniques for modeling real-world processes
Understanding of the integration of operations research methods within machine learning frameworks to enhance decision-making processes
