GovCIO has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Database Administrator to assume a key role on our team at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. This role will support the objectives of the Surgeon General and Defense Health Agency (DHA) principles within Resource Management (RM) Department. The RM provides enduring and adaptable internal business solutions across the DHA. This role will operate on a hybrid schedule with one to two (1-2) telework days a week and the rest of the time on site.

Responsibilities Oversee the daily operations of multiple SQL Server instances and servers, ensuring the optimal performance, security, and integrity of our Microsoft-based database environmentUnderstand the proprietary platform that enables organizations to digitally transform their business processes through portals, dashboards, and workflowsSet standards and best practices for database operations, data warehouse management, and data governanceDesign, develop, test, and deploy SSIS packages to manage data pipelines and ETL processesEnsure data integrity, security, and compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirementsManage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery processesCollaborate with development teams to provide technical support and expertise on database design, development, and optimizationWork closely with clients to understand their needs and identify new requirementsDevelop and implement database performance tuning and optimization strategiesEnsure database security and access controls are in place and conduct regular security auditsProvide technical leadership and guidance on database-related projects and initiativesTroubleshoot and resolve complex database issues and escalate as necessaryDevelop and maintain technical documentation for database systems, processes, and proceduresStay up to date with the latest Microsoft SQL Server features, best practices, and industry trends

 

Qualifications

High School with 6 - 9 years (or commensurate experience)

Required to be a US Citizen

Required Skills and Experience

Clearance Required: None6+ years of experience in SQL Server administration, with a strong focus on SQL Server 2016 or laterIn-depth knowledge of SQL Server architecture, configuration, and performance tuningExperience with data warehouse design, implementation, and managementStrong understanding of ETL processes, data modeling, and data qualityProficiency in T-SQL, SQL Server Management Studio, and SSISExperience with backup and recovery strategies, including data integrity and availabilityStrong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issuesExcellent communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and provide technical support to both internal and external stakeholdersBachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related fieldUS passport holder

Preferred Skills and Experience

Experience with cloud-based SQL Server solutions, such as Azure SQL DatabaseKnowledge of ITIL or other IT service management frameworksExperience with Agile development methodologies and version control systems, such as GitCertification in SQL Server administration, such as Microsoft Certified: Data Platform Administrator Associate

Posted Pay Range

 

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
