UVA Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking an experienced, dynamic and mission-driven Senior Database Administrator to join the Enterprise Applications, Data Services Department. Reporting to the Senior Director of Data Services and Solution Architecture, this role is responsible for sustaining the database and application infrastructures that enable the University to capture, maintain, and access data in numerous critical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Database Administrator will:
Administer a wide variety of enterprise-class, mission critical databases and application infrastructures. Manage database infrastructure components including installation and maintenance of database kernels, listeners, and monitoring tools.Monitor and optimize database performance and provide expert consultation on database design.Investigate and troubleshoot system related issues and consult on hardware configuration requirements. Collaborate with system and network administrators to maintain and configure hardware infrastructure supporting the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and Identity and Access Management (IAM) applications. Administer the Integration Services Platform (Boomi), Informatica, Microsoft Purview, Atlassian applications database and other assigned platforms. Ensure database and application security, availability, and performance monitoring in alignment with University and industry best practices.ITS at UVA is a phenomenal place to lead, grow, and deliver impact. Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Install and sustain Oracle database infrastructure components that support numerous enterprise services including EDW, IAM and more (e.g. database server, database listeners, web and application servers; database connectivity).Acquire, administer and apply patches for the database infrastructure.Acquire, administer and apply relevant application patches.Configure, monitor, and tune the database infrastructure for optimal performance for the applications.Develop, test, and execute database backup, recovery, and refresh procedures.Anticipate cyclical events and/or forecast system resource requirements.Maintain security certificates and shared encryption keys for applications.Work with the system and network engineers/administrators to ensure environments remain stable and secure.Other duties as assigned.Application Data Repository Services
Develop data models, database designs, and database specifications.Create and maintain schemas and related database objects (e.g. views, constraints, triggers, roles).Determine and/or anticipate impact of cyclical events; business decisions; and or/changes in business operations, data requirements, and/or application system.Assist developers and users with database access and navigation (e.g. SQL analysis, traces, commits strategy).Migrate data (e.g. data extracts, data loads).Data Security and Compliance
Implement database security measures that abide by industry best practices (i.e. CIS Benchmark).Monitor and/or analyze database audit tables and logs.Adhere to ITIL Change Management processes to ensure compliance with University regulations.Integration Services Administration
Manage integrations and account structures in the Boomi Integration Services environment.Acquire, administer and apply application-related patches to the Boomi Integration Services environment.Install, configure, monitor, and tune the application components on Boomi servers.Implement all necessary application security measures.Professional Development
Develop the skills needed to maintain the highest standards of professional excellence in the knowledge and use of technology, hardware, and software.Research and promote the use of new technologies and methods.Stay informed about the latest trends and developments in higher-education enterprise application systems.Self-Motivation and Leadership:
Work independently with minimal guidance.Prepare or assist in the development of database and application infrastructure project plans to support the systems.Provide progress and updates on project activities.Lead projects or project steps within a larger project.Collaboration and Teamwork:
Work collaboratively with SIS technical and functional team members in assessing, analyzing, testing and tuning.Crosstrain with fellow team members to ensure backups exist for key processes.Serve as a mentor to peers and clients.Mentor junior team members to help foster a culture of continuous improvement.Coordinate with system and network administrators on maintenance and configuration of the hardware infrastructureVendor Management:
Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, working with them on implementations, issue resolution and enhancement requests.Qualifications:
Education:Bachelor’s degree preferred.Experience:Minimum of 5 years working as an Oracle Database AdministratorSkills:Superb analytical and problem-solving abilities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholdersAbility to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.Strong foundation in SQLDemonstrated experience administering AIX, Linux, and related scripting languagesExcellent writing, presentation, and communication skillsSelf-motivated, resourceful, and inclusiveAble to work collaboratively and independentlyPreferred Qualifications:
In-depth knowledge of Oracle database concepts, technologies, and best practices.Experience in computer science, computer engineering, engineering instrumentation & control, or other related major.5+ years of experience working with Oracle databases and related technologiesKnowledge of Boomi Integration Services, Boomi Data Hub, Informatica, Microsoft PurviewExperience in a higher education environmentApplicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States. Anticipated hiring range :135k-145k
