**Job Summary**
As a **Senior Electrical Engineer** in the Dealer Service Tools group, you will be focused on our vast product portfolio of diagnostic, test and measurement equipment. You will be responsible for both new product development and current product maintenance within this product portfolio of tools that are used by our Dealer Technicians every day. As Caterpillar’s prime products continue to embed electronic systems and controls, it is critical to provide tools in this space that enable our Dealer Technicians to troubleshoot and repair our customer’s machines safely, efficiently, and effectively, supporting Caterpillar’s services growth strategy.
As a part of the Dealer Service Tools (DST) group at Caterpillar, the Diagnostic, Test & Measurement team is looking to expand our capability to develop new and innovative tools. The team is looking for an electrical/electronic engineer with passion and proven experience in the design and development of electronic tools. DST Engineers must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of emerging technologies. Key learning comes from gaining experience in product, process and systems definition. You will select the most appropriate tools and techniques for a project, collaborating with people inside and outside of engineering and the organization, throughout the entire value chain. You will be responsible for technical communication and documentation of your projects. Good communication is expected for technical status updates and when working closely with others, including engineering support staff, purchasing, product groups testing staff, and suppliers located in multiple geographic locations and organizations.

**What You Will Do:**
+ Execute structured NPI tooling development per Caterpillar standard practices while meeting time, cost, and quality goals
+ Develop diagnostic, test & measurement tools needed to support machines across all Caterpillar product lines
+ Execute engineering projects supporting a portfolio of over 3,000 diagnostic, test and measurement tools that are used by our Dealer Technicians every day.
+ Identify needs and develop specialty tooling for high voltage machine diagnostics Collaborate with prime product groups to establish commonality in design, for such things as jumper cable plugs, testing ports, check for deenergized state
+ Execute regulatory compliance projects that may require engineering design, supplier collaboration, new supplier identification, and inventory management.
+ Develop customer-ready publications for developed tools, including Tool Operating Manuals, Tool Articles & brochures, and instructional videos.
+ Collaborate closely with Team members, Caterpillar Procurement team and Suppliers to identify or develop new tools that meet or exceed requirements established through NPI activity, regulatory, obsolescence or cost management.
+ Provide expertise to address dealer inquires for technical support through a wide variety of inputs including data review, drawing and schematic investigation.
+ Act as a general electronic tool Subject Matter Expert, supporting the global Caterpillar Engineering community in identification of available tools applicable to specific needs.
+ Drive resolution to CPI issues using the DMAIC problem-solving process Collaborate closely with internal and external product support teams to drive zero defect focused design and process collaboration
+ Represent the Dealer Service Tools group as target requirements for serviceability are revisited and maintenance procedures are evaluated to account for a wider demographic of maintainer, enabling them to perform tasks safely, efficiently and effectively.
**What You Have (Required Skills):**
+ Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum
+ **Analytical Thinking:** Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
+ **Technical Excellence:** Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
+ **Product Design and Development:** Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
**What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Skills):**
+ Previous hands-on experience with instrumentation and testing equipment
+ Previous job-related, progressive work experience with machine electrical components and systems
+ Master’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum
+ Strong interpersonal skills to work with product groups giving presentations, working on teams and interfacing with product group leadership when necessary
+ Previous field service experience
+ Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
+ Demonstrated ability to work and make decisions independently
+ Experience in electronic component selection and integration
+ Knowledge of drivetrain systems for a range of architectures (hybrid, BEV, etc.)
+ Experience with high voltage lab testing

**Summary Pay Range:**
$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
