Job DescriptionWorks under limited supervision, demonstrating a high level of autonomy and decision-making ability.Provides comprehensive training and technical support to design staff on the Building Information Modeling (BIM) system, which creates detailed 3D models using project specifications and content.Develops and implements BIM standards and best practices for HVAC design within the organization.Directs project support and production for assigned projects, creating drawings as required using established standards and content to meet job requirements (including objects within the drawing such as doors, lights, etc.).Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of HVAC systems with other building components in the BIM environment.Performs quality control checks on BIM models to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications and industry standards.Conducts clash detection analyses and coordinates with other disciplines to resolve conflicts in the BIM model.Develops and maintains libraries of HVAC components and families within the BIM software.Participates in client meetings and presentations to communicate design concepts and solutions effectively.Mentors junior designers and drafters, providing guidance on HVAC design principles and BIM best practices.Stays current with the latest advancements in HVAC technology and BIM software, recommending and implementing improvements to workflows and processes.Assists in the preparation of project proposals, including scope definition and resource allocation for BIM-related tasks.Collaborates with the IT department to ensure optimal performance of BIM software and hardware infrastructure.Contributes to the development of energy-efficient HVAC designs using BIM tools for analysis and simulation.

Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.Minimum of 8 years of experience in HVAC design and BIM implementation.Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.Proficient in using calculation data and modeling/drafting ducting/chilled water piping systems.Advanced proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.Working knowledge of other 2D & 3D modeling and drafting software and review software would be an advantage.Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing BIM standards and best practices for HVAC design.Strong understanding of HVAC systems, including load calculations, equipment selection, and energy efficiency principles.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to resolve complex design issues.Proven leadership experience in managing and mentoring junior designers and drafters.Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively present design concepts to clients and cross-functional teams.Familiarity with industry standards and codes related to HVAC design (e.g., ASHRAE, LEED).Experience with energy modeling and simulation software for HVAC systems.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest advancements in HVAC technology and BIM software.
