Primary Purpose
Responsible for the overall operation, condition, maintenance and repair for all water treatment equipment, dialysis and apheresis equipment to ensure that all equipment is in compliance with applicable safety standards. Serves as the expert in training staff in the operation and maintenance of the Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems and distribution.
Education
•Must have completed a course of study in repair and maintenance of dialysis equipment or Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment within 6mos. of hire.
Experience
•2 years of directly related experience in a dialysis or RO water purification environment or 2 years of Certified Hemodialysis Technician experience- or a combination of two years in the two areas.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
•Must have a certification for Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment within 6mos. of hire.
Skills or Special Abilities
•Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing with all levels of staff and management.
•Must have basic computer knowledge and the ability to utilize spreadsheet software.
Responsibilities
1.Sets up, inspects, prepares, and or conducts tests on water treatment equipment daily, checking PH and conductivity, calibrating and disinfecting phoenix meter daily, checking the PH and chlorine/chloramine in the water used for dialysis, rinsing, labeling, documenting and certifying equipment to ensure equipment meets regulatory and PHHS standards.
2.Performs troubleshooting and routine maintenance on equipment and analyzes problems in order to determine the best course of action for repairing equipment, including in emergency situations.
3.Documents all equipment maintenance activity and keeps accurate records of equipment sent out, parts ordered, and received. Maintains records of each piece of medical equipment, tracking all repairs, calibrations, inspections, and modifications to ensure that all equipment maintenance is well documented.
4.Conducts in depth training and inservices for unit staff and medical staff on the proper use of equipment and Reverse Osmosis (RO) water system.
5.Orders and maintains supply PAR levels, performs EOC rounds and audits to ensure that all necessary parts are in stock and available for staff use in equipment procedures.
6.Disinfects portable RO machines and performs water cultures, LAL tests on the RO water outlets, dialysis machines and RO system as per AAMI regulation to ensure the culture counts remain within acceptable parameters ensuring purity and safety.
7.Serves as a resource person and interacts with staff, employees, vendors, and manufacturers to ensure resolution of equipment problems, coordination of activities and safe operation of equipment.
8.Participates and assists in the budget planning and evaluation for the dialysis and apheresis unit equipment and repair.
9.Develops and implements policies and procedures for equipment operation and maintenance and patient safety as outlined in the administrative clinical review program.
10.Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in dialysis area by attending seminars/workshops and reading professional journals. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
11.Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and missions of Parkland in order to improve overall departmental and biomedical area performance and effectiveness.
12.Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Dialysis area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
