General Accountability
Provides leadership and oversight for the planning, development and implementation of communication, marketing and design strategies for SGI, SGI CANADA and its regional operations. Oversees coordination between SGI’s in-house design team and external agencies to produce visual and digital assets for all SGI and SGI CANADA’s channels. Oversees media relations and social media strategies for SGI and SGI CANADA, in collaboration with Shareholder Relations. Provides guidance and advice to senior leadership on emergency response and crisis communications. Upholds brand and style-guide standards across all content channels.

Marketing and Design Leadership
Oversees the planning, development and implementation of marketing strategies that support sales via SGI CANADA’s brokers. Works in collaboration with internal and external partners to drive growth and profitability and/or oversees marketing strategies to support corporate strategic initiatives.
Directs the development and execution of marketing and advertising strategies that support Auto Fund programming and traffic safety initiatives. Works in collaboration with internal and external partners.
Directs corporate marketing strategies such as the creation of recruitment and retention campaigns aimed at improving SGI’s employment brand.
Sets strategic direction for in-house graphic design teams and/or creative agencies executing on creative briefs in alignment with corporate strategic initiatives.
Directs event delivery and management for the organization, including corporate, SGI CANADA and Auto Fund events.
Stays current with consumer, industry and marketing trends (B2B2C) identifying opportunities to support broker sales and/or attract and retain customers.
Builds, manages and expands internal and external relationships and/or partnerships to enhance collaboration on marketing and design initiatives and to ensure opportunities are leveraged.
Communications Leadership
Oversees the planning, development and implementation of corporate communication strategies and tactics for employees and stakeholders.
Oversees the identification and mitigation of reputational risks through strategic communications.
Collaborates with Change Management (CM) to support internal and external change initiatives; oversees required change management communications.
Liaises with Executive Council, the Minister’s office, Crown Investments Corporation as well as contacts in other government ministries and agencies and other stakeholder groups on strategic communication issues.
Reviews and provides strategic guidance on metrics and reporting for communications initiatives.
Media Relations, Social Media and Crisis Communications
Oversees the planning, development and implementation of proactive and reactive media relations strategies in collaboration with Stakeholder Relations.
Directs SGI’s social media interactions to address issues, ensuring effective communication with customers and the public.
Oversees corporate communication response plans per SGI’s emergency and crisis management standards.
Advises senior leadership on emergency response and crisis communications.
People Leadership
Builds a high performing workforce by actively leading human resource activities.
Ensures development of divisional succession plans.
Builds a culture of leadership and accountability to effectively deliver on strategic and corporate strategies, ensuring integration with employee performance development and career development plans.
Drives performance through team members and is committed to leadership development across the company, supporting employees and workforce readiness through mentoring, training and developmental opportunities.
Corporate Management
Ensures programs and policies are in alignment with corporate, strategic and divisional strategies.
Manages risk in area of authority.
Prepares, reviews, manages and/or approves departmental/divisional budgets.
Prepares decision requests, decision and/or information items and/or SGI board items.
Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility, including development, implementation and managing of program components specific to departmental health and safety requirements.
Makes decisions for departmental operations that are efficient, effective and in alignment with strategic direction and priorities.
Ensures department and program policies, procedures and guidelines are in compliance with applicable federal and provincial legislation and regulations; implements and evaluates changes to legislation and regulations in area of authority.
Establishes and maintains an effective system of internal controls to support reliable financial reporting and compliance in accordance with applicable laws and regulations within the span of control and communicates the importance of internal controls to staff.
Education and ExperienceA four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or Business.
Twelve years’ experience comprised of eight years leadership experience with progressively challenging responsibility and four years’ experience in marketing, communications, public relations, visual communications or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of strategy development and execution.
Knowledge of communication and strategic policy principles and practices; public relations and publicity techniques; visual and digital communication principles.
Knowledge of brand, marketing and advertising principles and practices.
Knowledge of the insurance industry.
Knowledge of organizational units and how they interact to support the corporation’s operations.
Knowledge of how financial information contributes to management understanding and decisions.
Knowledge of project management and change management methodologies and techniques required to plan, manage and execute projects.
Skill in providing a customer-centric approach to communications.
Ability to write and speak clearly, concisely, persuasively and targeted to the appropriate audience.
Ability to balance multiple stakeholder demands and negotiate consensus on preferred approaches, dealing with sensitive issues professionally and discreetly.
Ability to identify issues that require communication intervention (proactive and reactive issues management).
