General Description:
Reporting into the Executive Director, GMA Medical Affairs LD&C, this role is pivotal in shaping the strategic scientific oversight of our global congress strategy, driving innovative approaches to maximize the impact of scientific communications initiatives, and leading special projects that require high-level cross-functional collaboration and execution.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing a forward-looking vision for medical congresses, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities, and delivering exceptional scientific engagement. This role will ensure seamless execution of strategic initiatives while fostering collaboration across senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
Essential Functions of the job:
Strategic Scientific Oversight:
Lead the development of a comprehensive congress strategy that aligns with organizational goals and scientific priorities.Provide scientific oversight to ensure accuracy, relevance, and impact in congress content and engagements.Identify emerging trends and opportunities in the medical and scientific community to inform congress strategy.Congress Strategy and Leadership:
Develop and implement the overarching vision for the organization’s presence at key global and regional medical congresses.Oversee planning, execution, and post-event analysis to ensure measurable outcomes and continuous improvement.Co-lead the Global Congress taskforces with commercial to ensure aligned strategy and flawless executionAct as the primary point of contact for senior leadership, providing updates and insights on congress-related activities.Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with medical affairs, marketing, commercial, R&D, and other key stakeholders to ensure unified execution of congress initiatives.Facilitate input from senior leadership to drive alignment and decision-making for high-impact initiatives.Special Projects Leadership:
Champion innovation within Scientific Communications, including use of technology and AI to improve efficiency and quality of work Lead strategic cross-functional projects, leveraging innovative approaches and ensuring timely delivery of key outcomes.Collaborate with PMO to manage timelines, budgets, and stakeholder communications effectively.Education Required:
Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent preferred) in life sciences, medical, or a related field.Qualifications:
BA/BA with 12 + years of experience or an MA/MS/PhD/PharmD or equivalent with 10+ years of experience in medical affairs or a similar strategic role in the life sciences industry.Demonstrated expertise in congress planning and execution, with a strong understanding of the scientific and business landscape.Executive presence with proven ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams, including senior leadership.Strong project management skills and experience working with or overseeing PMO resources.Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.Experience working globally, cross-culturally, and cross-functionally in a matrixed environment.Knowledge of clinical medicine, disease management, and medical research practices preferred. Working knowledge in multiple disease areas preferredKnowledge of applicable international compliance guidelines and regulations for scientific communications applicable to pharmaceutical companiesExperience in vendor managementConfident, positive attitude, enthusiastic and charismatic.
