Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President, Corporate National Philanthropy Programs (AVP), the Senior Director of Development (SDOD) will ensure the fundraising success of the philanthropic program by serving as a subject matter expert, a professional role model, and an identified team and program leader. The incumbent, having demonstrated leadership and success in the field, will execute strategies that support the shared vision of the Preparing Our People initiative. This effort includes preparing the Philanthropy team for the rigors of a campaign, to realize our goal of excelling as a highly collaborative, efficient, and creative team. The SDOD will help implement a cultural adherence to personal accountability, shared success, and a commitment to professional growth.

The SDOD will contribute by employing and modeling key processes and programs that support an office-wide focus on collaboration, efficiencies, and metrics-based performance outcomes, in addition to primary role responsibilities.

Specifically, this position is responsible for developing, implementing, assessing, and evolving strategies to grow the LA Real Estate, Northern California Real Estate and Chicago Real Estate programs for City of Hope, including existing local campaigns, programs and projects as well as targeted outreach to individual corporate partners.   The SDOD— LA Real Estate, Northern California Real Estate and Chicago Real Estate leads and manages a team focused on executing strategy as well as collaborating with National Philanthropy team in developing and cultivating a pipeline of individual donors. 

The SDOD— LA Real Estate, Northern California Real Estate and Chicago Real Estate acts as a part of an integrated fundraising team and will also serve as a leader on special projects related to strategic priorities of the institution. As a key member of the Corporate and National Philanthropy team, the SDOD will work collaboratively across the department, as well as the OOP, to develop programmatic strategies to grow and steward our overall national portfolio of donor and corporate partners and volunteer activities. 

 

As a successful candidate, you will:

Lead the LA Real Estate, Northern California Real Estate and Chicago Real Estate campaigns and activities in reaching its strategic development and fundraising goal.  Includes:

Meet annual activity and financial performance metrics.Analyze and implement program to ensure cost effectiveness.Develop, implement and assess strategic plans for increasing the financial success of industry campaigns and events, working strategically with staff and when appropriate, programs across offices of Philanthropy and Marketing/CommunicationsDevelop and maintain productive, mission founded relationships with key donors, volunteers, committees and councils.  Attend council meetings and events. 

Managing the LA Real Estate, Northern California Real Estate and Chicago Real Estate efforts: Lead the team with a focus on accountability, best practices, and collaboration. The incumbent will demonstrate an ability to motivate staff toward adherence to key performance indicators and to maintain a productive culture. Includes:

Develop and maintain productive relationships with City of Hope faculty and staff to support fundraising initiatives for COH priorities.Works to design, develop and assign pipeline of individual donors.  Maintain focused portfolio of 3-5 major gift prospects that may be managed in collaboration with National Philanthropy gift officers.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Philanthropy or related field.  Experience may substitute for subject area requirements.5+ years in fund raising, development, or related field in non-profit environment. Experience in a complex medical or academic development setting encouraged.  Demonstrated understanding of social media outlets such as Linked In, Twitter and Facebook required.Minimum 3 years supervisory experience required.
