Senior Director, Direct Procurement

The Senior Director of Direct Procurement will lead the direct procurement function for Integra LifeSciences, a global leader in medical device manufacturing. This strategic role is responsible for overseeing and optimizing category management, supplier selection, supplier performance, and supplier relationship management (SRM) to ensure the seamless and cost-effective delivery of critical materials and components required for product manufacturing. Lead the overall effort to ensure goods and services arrive with the right level of quality, at the right time, and optimal cost. The Senior Director will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, quality, and R&D, to support the company’s goals in innovation, quality, and regulatory compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily as follows:

Category Management Strategy Development and Execution

Develop and execute a comprehensive category management strategy to ensure effective procurement of critical materials and components, balancing cost, quality, and availability.

Lead the identification and segmentation of key product categories within direct procurement, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and manufacturing needs.

Build and manage category plans with clear goals, milestones, and performance measures to continuously improve procurement effectiveness.

Conduct regular market and supplier analysis to drive decisions related to category strategy, pricing, and risk mitigation.

Manage total spend per category of goods and services establishing sourcing strategies and approaches to reduce the total cost of ownership and meet agreed upon savings targets as established by VP, Global Procurement

Supplier Selection and Qualification

Drive the supplier selection process to ensure high-quality suppliers are chosen for critical manufacturing components, meeting regulatory and industry standards.

Oversee supplier qualification, ensuring alignment with quality assurance, compliance, and sustainability standards specific to the medical device industry.

Develop and maintain a robust supplier base with the flexibility to meet evolving needs and adapt to market dynamics.

Negotiate favorable terms, pricing, and contracts with suppliers to drive value and maintain cost competitiveness.

Supplier Relationship & Performance Management

Mentor, Support and Manage the Director, Supplier Relationship Management who will be responsible for implementation and oversight of supplier performance management processes to track and optimize performance against established KPIs, including quality, delivery, cost, and innovation

Cross-functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Management

Lead periodic cross-functional category review session with executive level management

Partner with internal departments such as R&D, Operations, Quality, Human Resources, IS and Regulatory Affairs to align direct procurement strategies with product development and manufacturing timelines.  Build and maintain a united strategy to supplier management with the supplier quality organization.

Collaborate closely with senior leadership to set and align direct procurement goals with overall company objectives, ensuring cross-functional alignment and support.

Risk Management and Compliance

Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including disruptions, quality failures, or regulatory non-compliance.

Ensure direct procurement practices align with the company’s regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO), industry standards, and ethical sourcing principles.

Manage and optimize inventory to mitigate supply chain risks while ensuring minimal disruption to manufacturing operations.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation

Drive continuous improvement in direct procurement processes, including automation, digital tools, and analytics, to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

Keep abreast of trends and advancements in direct procurement technology, category management, and the medical device industry, leveraging new tools and practices to maintain a competitive edge.

Leadership & Team Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a high performing team of direct procurement professionals, fostering a culture of safety, continuous learning, and accountability.

Ensure that all team members receive appropriate support, ensuring they have the necessary skills and tools to deliver on organizational goals

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree or MBA preferred.

Minimum of 15 years of experience in procurement, operations, supply chain, with at least 5 years in a direct procurement leadership role.

Experience working for a medical device or highly regulated industry preferred.

Proven experience in developing and executing category management strategies, supplier performance management, and supplier relationship management.

Strong understanding of global sourcing, contract negotiations, and cost reduction strategies.

Experience with complex and high-value supplier negotiations and managing cross-functional relationships.

Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with a proven track record of leading cross-functional teams.

In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, supplier selection, contract management, and supplier risk mitigation.

Strong negotiation and communication skills, capable of managing complex supplier relationships.

Expertise in managing supplier performance metrics and using data to drive decision-making.

Understanding of medical device industry regulations (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485) and compliance standards.

Experience with procurement software, ERP systems, and digital tools in supply chain management.

This role is hybrid between Princeton, NJ and remote. Office days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
