Job Description
Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. Reporting to the Executive Director of Global Medical Affairs, Insights, Digital and Analytics this individual will be responsible for leading HCP digital strategy and transformation within Medical Affairs, to create a cohesive and personalized engagements between Gilead and the medical community. The role spearheads the strategy for digital capabilities, orchestrates omnichannel efforts, and deploying new and evolving digital technologies, such as AI/ML applications and digital health advances. Working together with partners in commercial, development, compliance, and information technology teams, this person will enhance Medical Affairs engagements and patient results through tailored content, unified digital offerings, and fostering a culture of innovation and adaptability within the organization. This position is office-based in Foster City.
This individual will work across all therapeutic areas to build organizational enthusiasm for, and ensure implementation of new solutions that provide meaningful, patient-centric value in a highly matrixed organization.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Partner with stakeholders (e.g., Medical Affairs, Business Conduct, Development, Regulatory Affairs, Legal and Commercial) to develop and shape the Digital Medical Strategy, operating model, and digital roadmap and portfolio to accelerate patient outcomes improvement
Establish and/or advise in cross functional governance, standards and SOPs for global MA digital assets and capabilities
Lead digital optimization for MA through user experience research, behavioral data analytics and cross functional insights
Shape DOL identification and engagement best practices
Serve as change agent and strategic thought partner for MA to deeply connect with HCPs through an integrated digital and omnichannel ecosystem
Serve as POC for MA to inform requirements needed for enterprise digital tools that will be used globally and managed locally
Balance long-term vision with short-term delivery while making decisions to invest/build/sustain to catalyze the organization to deliver on the vision
Create and oversee data metrics to evaluate and enhance digital offerings
Lead global digital innovation process, projects and partnerships by identifying opportunities for digital transformation within the company’s operations, products, and services
Oversee the ideation, design, and prototyping of new digital solutions, ensuring they meet user needs and regulatory standards
Develop creative and effective solutions to address inter- and intra-project priority conflicts, resource constraints and other problems which may impact project goals and deliverables across multiple programs
Direct and lead continuous improvement of processes, organizational digital IQ and supporting tools to determine best practices and appropriate resource needs, including budget, tools, and personnel
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Bachelors degree and 14 years’ experience or an MA/MS/PhD and 12 years’ experience
Have domain expertise and leadership experience in both Medical Affairs and Digital, with a proven track record of designing and implementing digital and omnichannel solutions that enhance HCP engagement and patient outcomes
Significant business experience/scientific experience with digital innovation tools, technology and patient outcomes
Strategic acumen/experience in understanding external shifts in patient experience from the lens of delivering patient-centered care experiences across systems of care
Appreciation of opportunity for digital innovation as embraced/funded by large risk holding entities and data holders
5-7 years global/in-market Pharma/Biopharma experience preferable
Oncology and/or Virology experience preferable
Practical experience and technical expertise with machine learning, artificial intelligence, novel digital health technology, digital health product development, big data and advanced analytics, and cloud storage
Experience delivering patient-centric engagement strategies for patient and physician (HCP) awareness, demand generation, and retention programs utilizing digital, social, traditional, mobile and advocacy partnership tools
Experience shaping end to end digital customer experience to advance organizational agility and efficiency
Project management expertise; with experience applying LEAN Methodology to reduce complexity
Experience in an alliance or strategic partnership
Experience in translating business needs into a coordinated plan
Results-orientation with ability to develop creative and simple solutions to complex problems
Strong ability to collaborate across multiple internal and external partners
Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy and conciseness
Uncompromising ethical standard and conduct
Able to motivate and foster team & cross functional collaboration
