What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the VP, Insurance, the Senior Director, Insurance Risk is accountable for oversight of the end to end governance strategy for the Insurance business. The Senior Director is a member of the Insurance Senior Leadership team and is focused on providing leadership and guidance on business governance, risk and regulatory compliance and the alignment to the Insurance strategy.  This individual is also responsible for developing and ensuring the ongoing effectiveness of the business model to manage the implementation of business rules, while maintaining strong relationships with key partner groups.

How you’ll succeed

Policy & Regulatory Strategy- Champion the policy framework for Insurance and provide leadership for design of policies, ensuring alignment to business objectives, optimizing policies and acceptance across product/channel.  Maintain in depth knowledge of products, policies, standards, processes and systems as well as emerging federal and provincial regulatory requirements. Establish governance and accountability for ongoing proactive review/maintenance of policies and rules and monitoring of performance; including identification of opportunities to enhance policies to support the Insurance business.  Participate/lead projects that require governance, policy, and/regulatory expertise.  Lead in the development and execution of multi-year business planning and identification, and initiation of strategic initiatives related to policy, regulatory and legislation management, as required.

Governance, Controls and Risk Management- Implement and maintain strong Governance processes and a robust and comprehensive Business Risk Management Framework to ensure compliance with policies, procedures and regulations and effective identification, monitoring and mitigation of operational risks. Oversee processes to ensure adequate training on creditor insurance is provided to the frontline. Maintain and evolve the CIBC Life Risk Management Framework and related CIBC Life Policies.  Chair CIBC Life Risk Management Committee meetings and participate in CIBC Life Board meetings.  Coordinate/support Internal Audit and Compliance examinations and regulatory inquiries/ /examinations. 

Client Escalations- Provide oversight and leadership of the management of Wellness & Protection client escalations including managing litigation files, media and reputational concerns and privacy incidents.  Work closely with the CIBC Life Insurance Company CCAO  Media Relations and Legal to ensure timely and fair resolution of all client concerns.

People Leader- Provide leadership by: Hiring the right people in the right jobs;  Setting appropriate context when assigning work; Building team and individual capabilities; Managing performance; Creating a positive work environment; and Promoting compliance with policies, standards, guidelines and controls.. 

Who you are

You have extensive risk and regulatory management experience, including prior roles in audit, compliance, legal, and risk management.   It is an asset if your experience is specific to the insurance business ideally in the creditor and/or life, living benefits and health insurance spaces.

You have experience leading the development of senior executive material preparation such as board materials, C-suite level briefs on issues and initiatives, and are able to summarize often complex information into succinct story lines that effectively convey the pertinent information.
