The Senior Director, Media and External Relations role is part of the global Corporate Affairs team, supporting all of our sites around the globe. The role is essential in managing the company’s external communications and reputation, with a strong emphasis on building relationships with top-tier U.S. media outlets. You will be responsible for crafting and executing media strategies, monitoring media coverage, and creating content for our external channels. A key aspect of this role is collaborating with teams geographies Europe, US and Japan and functions such as finance, commercial, and investor relations, ensuring aligned messaging that resonates with key external audiences.

Job Description

In addition, you will support investor meetings, working closely with our Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies (FDB) leadership and corporate communications colleagues. Also our Fujifilm colleagues in Japan and regional offices in Europe and US are key partners to ensure that our external communications are clear, consistent, and aligned with the company’s broader strategic goals.

 

You will be part of a small team with focus on internal and external stakeholders. Your ability to work both on strategies, plans and content will be key as well as a very collaborative mindset.

 

Main Responsibilities: 

Build Strong Global and U.S. Media Relationships: Cultivate and maintain relationships with top-tier media – in particular U.S. media outlets - to secure impactful media coverage that aligns with the company’s strategic priorities.Media Monitoring and Reporting: Track media coverage, industry trends, and competitor activities to provide actionable insights and recommendations to leadership and internal teams.Create Engaging Content: Support on writing engaging content for media, SoMe and our website content to communicate the company’s strategy, values, and achievements in a clear and compelling way.Collaborate on Investor Communications: Work alongside the Corporate investor relations team and regional colleagues to support investor meetings, ensuring consistent and effective messaging.Website Content Development: Collaborate with internal teams to ensure the corporate website is regularly updated with content that reflects the company’s strategy and key external messaging.Provide Strategic Counsel: Advise senior leadership on media strategies, help position the company positively in the public eye.Media Training: Support on media training for senior leadership and spokespeople, ensuring they are well-prepared for interviews and public engagements.Thought Leadership: Identify and develop opportunities for company executives to engage in key industry conversations and contribute to thought leadership, enhancing the company’s position as an industry leader.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with finance, commercial, and regional teams to ensure external communications are aligned with business objectives and reinforce key messaging.Measure and Optimize Media Efforts: Use media monitoring tools and analytics to evaluate the success of media outreach and adjust strategies to improve the effectiveness of external communication.All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, International relations or a related field is required.10+ years of experience in external relations, media relations, or corporate communications10+ years in a leadership role within a global organization and in a matrix style organizationAdvanced knowledge in media training, preparing senior leadership for media interactions and ensuring consistent public representationAdvanced knowledge in media monitoring, content creation, and reporting to evaluate the impact of external communications strategiesAdvanced knowledge of the U.S. media landscape; including the ability to secure high-impact placements and build lasting media relationships.Proven experience supporting investor relations and ensuring consistent messaging in global communications.Proven experience in crisis communication and reputation management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong understanding of investor communications and experience supporting investor meetings, particularly in a global and cross functional contextStrong writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling narratives for diverse external and internal audiencesA strategic mindset with the ability to identify opportunities for thought leadership and position the company as an industry expert.Ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple projectsStrong collaboration skills across multiple regions, functions and stakeholders, including but not limited to finance, commercial, and investor relations to ensure alignment of external messaging.Strong attention to detailResults oriented and driven.

The successful candidate will be a media relations expert with deep knowledge of the U.S. media landscape and the ability to build strong relationships with top-tier outlets. You are a strategic thinker who can collaborate across regions and functions to ensure cohesive external communications that align with the business goals. You're a proactive and results driven communicator with the ability to optimize media outreach strategies and support key business initiatives. You are a trusted advisor to senior leadership, capable of providing strategic counsel and handling sensitive media situations with confidence.
