Position Summary

The Sr. Director of Shopper Insights will build a best-in-class shopper insights capability to help drive profitable retailer category growth and advantaged omni-channel brand presence for the Newell Brands portfolio.  This leader will generate retailer-specific, cross-category shopper insights that inform category leadership strategies, and partner with Newell’s Sales COE and BU Category Development function to implement a new Category Growth Selling Model.  He/She will interact regularly with customers and be a part of the Consumer Insights Leadership Team.

 

 
Job Responsibilities: 
 

Design, Build and Deploy a Shopper Insights Capability

Develop and lead the Shopper Insights learning agenda, creating a strong linkage between  Category Development, Category Managers, Sales, Customer teams,  Consumer Insights, and Analytics to ensure that research initiatives are informed by market and retailer dynamics, and the resulting insights are compelling, accessible, actionable and useful to sales teams.  Establish best- and next-in-class methodologies, tools and frameworks to generate differentiated shopper and retailer insights that position Newell to win in the market and drive our reputation as the category thought leader

 

Category Development and Brand Growth

Drive category leadership initiatives by generating superior shopper insights and developing foundational tools that enable field teams to partner strategically with customers Work cross-functionally to integrate insights-driven strategies to drive omni-channel category development and brand growth Identify opportunities to drive digital category and brand growth via search, navigation, digital shelf, assortment, digital marketing, etc.  Provide shopper insights and thought leadership in support of key business processes (e.g., Top-to-Tops, Retailer Innovation Summits, Joint Business Planning, etc.) Generate research to support BU go-to-market strategies and executions—Including innovation, packaging changes, shopper marketing, etc.—are based on shopper understanding and needs

 

Thought Leadership and Change Management

Help drive Newell’s transformation into a consumer-centric company through deep consumer/shopper understanding and empathy building Foster a learning culture that embraces change by prioritizing key operating principles: trust, psychological safety, agility, and speed to execution.  Actively participate in the Category Development community of practice, sharing best practices and raising the bar on shopper understanding thought leadership.  Help elevate Newell’s ability to make sense disparate sources of data, generate meaningful insights, and translate those into compelling stories to drive action

Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree; Master preferred  15-20+ years of relevant work experience:  Consumer/shopper insights and/or category development in a leading CPG company Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and creative problem-solving skills Ability to operate independently given direction, raise issues and be part of the solution Ability to assess organizational needs, and design and deliver relevant solutions Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and work effectively with all levels of employees across multiple functions and geographies  Strong project leadership skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce desired tangible outcomes within tight timeframes Excellent communication and storytelling skills. Must be able to present data in a compelling and organized manner  Personal qualities:  Driven, proactive, curious, collaborative, flexible, and resilient
