Your New Role…
CNN is seeking a deeply experienced and agile leader to oversee our talented team in the critical beats of White House and Capitol Hill, to give our audience the most dynamic and insightful reporting on these critical pillars of power.
The ideal candidate will understand how to balance breaking news, identify storylines at their infancy to keep CNN competitive on developing stories, and conceive deeper coverage that mixes enterprise, explanatory and analytical reporting. The senior director will also have the critical responsibility of ensuring stories and reporting is editorially rigorous and presented in the most engaging and accessible way for our audiences online and on tv with sweep, context and clarity. The position requires someone who has a demonstrated track record of helping reporters find exclusives and enterprise while also being at the front of breaking news.
You will guide a dynamic team journalists that are focused on multi-platform storytelling to give CNN competitive reporting, standout stories and creative experiences. You will be responsible for ensuring the network is focused on the most critical storylines and events, guiding senior executives and programming teams both on digital and shows on coverage and the sharpest framing. It will be up to you to ensure reporting is not just competitive but vetted and complete.
The job requires managing a team of reporters, editors and producers on assignments, quality and complexity of reporting and writing, creativity in use of video and presentation, and positioning everyone for growth and success.
This position is based in our Washington newsroom.
Your Role Accountabilities…
Set direction of coverage across multiple topic areas in newsroom or beatsVet critical reporting and sourcing, ensure triad components are engagedLead large team of beat leaders, correspondents, reporters, editors and producersEnsure reporting and storytelling is competitive with others in tv and digital competitor setBe aware of the editiorial landscape and capable of defining political dimensions of unfolding storiesDelegate and oversee team in breaking news, including both assignments and deployments in fieldCommunicate with digital and linear platforms to keep informed on coverage components, editorial developments and advise on presentation (banners, headlines, anchor copy etc)Ensure story coverage befits intensity of story in terms of depth of coverage (main story, live story, digital video, tv packages, sidebars etc)Coordinate with planning and enterprise to ensure coverage continuity and timelinessCoordinate with senior management, public relations, triad on critical storiesQualifications & Experience…
12+ years of editorial and digital news environment experience3-5 + years of management experienceCollege degree or equivalent industry experienceStrong understanding of US political editorial landscapeExceptional editorial acumen and ability to interpret complex editorial issuesStrong writing, editing and storytelling skills and understanding of storytelling on multiple platformsStrong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to work in a fast-paced news environment 24 hours/ 365 days a yearHow We Get Things Done…

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $156,100.00 - $289,900.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
