This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan or Mountain View, CA, three times per week, at minimum.
GM Global Communications Team
The Communications team at General Motors focuses on impact and driving transformation through storytelling. It is home to the company’s Employee Engagement, Vehicle Brand, Corporate, Tech & Innovation, and International Communications teams. The senior director will be working on GM’s global technology and innovation communications that includes software, services, electrification and battery communications. The person will serve as a key partner in shaping internal communications strategy for C-Suite leaders and support the team to develop and implement strategies and programs that drive forward functional and enterprise-level business objectives. The person will also be ready to dive into special communications projects and campaigns spanning internal, external or business operations.
This person will have a deep understanding of both internal and external communications landscapes and be able to drive change management and 360-degree comms campaigns that span both. They’ll be a strong stakeholder manager and consultant, able to give strategic counsel to our most senior leaders to elevate their brands, while being results-led and ensuring we deliver maximum impact for the business. This leader will additionally support special projects across the business, ensuring campaigns, processes and tools are launched effectively and run smoothly. This position is a unique opportunity for hands-on experience working with GM’s top leadership and driving impact across the comms and business teams, demonstrating the value comms can bring across the organization.
The person has experience collaborating effectively with stakeholders of all levels and can leverage strategic communications to align and inspire employees across the business. They understand the importance of bringing rigor as well as joy to the workplace. We are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, a team-first mentality, and a hands-on, ‘no task is too big or too small’ approach.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute comprehensive internal communications strategies aligned with GM’s goals and objectives
Partner closely with communications leaders and executives to understand their priorities and craft impactful messages that resonate with target audiences
Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders
Act as a trusted advisor to executives on communications matters
Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders
Draft speeches, presentations, taking points, social posts and other written materials for executive use
Partner with external communications leads to create internal storytelling opportunities Contribute to the production of high-quality content for internal and external comms channels, including social media and company website
Support Comms Strategy & Operations, including the development, launch and maintenance of new programs and tools that support the entire Comms team
Additional Job DescriptionRequired Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
10+ years working in internal and/or external communications
Incredible written and verbal communication skills
Experience working with senior executives
Excellent project management skills
Tenured experience with large, complex organizational change management and the development and execution of communications strategy with proven results
Ability to see the bigger picture of what needs to be done, remain unflappable under pressure, and stay nimble if change is needed
Desire to inspire and align teams through highly engaging communications and educational programs
A company vehicle will be provided for this role with successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Report review.
COMPENSATION: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.
The salary range for this role is $127,900 to $200,100. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
