Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Associate Provost, Academic Programs and Assessment, the Senior Director of Curriculum provides oversight and management to all procedural matters regarding extensive curriculum review and approval processes in Academic Affairs, inclusive of both campus-wide approval procedures, as well as those program approval procedures mandated by the State.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct sequencing of undergraduate and graduate curricular actions through all on-campus appropriate approval bodies, including the University Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, Graduate Council, and MSU Board of Trustees, as well as State entities including the Academic Issues Committee (AIC) of the New Jersey Presidents' Council, and the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education.
Responsible for oversight of CourseLeaf Curriculum and Course Management System (CAT and CIM Courses), as well as implementation of ClM Programs.
Serve as primary Academic Affairs contact for inquiries related to curriculum review, implementation, and alteration, work directly with the Provost, Associate Provost for Academic Programs & Assessment and the Registrar regarding such issues.
Connect directly with deans and faculty members regarding correct procedures and accuracy of submissions and approvals for new programs and program alterations. Review and analyze curricular submissions in conjunction with the Associate Provost and Provost; perform follow-up with appropriate entities (i.e., Deans, chairs, and faculty) as needed.
Liaison to Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness concerning programmatic CIP and SURE reporting data.
Analyze and approve course submissions prior to review by Associate Provost; perform direct follow up with deans and faculty regarding resolution of issues prior to Associate Provost approval of courses.
Function as Provost's Office resource to Graduate School Dean/Graduate Curriculum Committee Chair regarding Graduate Council Curriculum Committee issues and approvals; serve as Provost Office Liaison to University wide initiatives regarding Curriculum.
Supervise staff in supporting work of the University Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, which includes maintenance of the UUCC Canvas website, used for posting curricular proposals for review and discussion by committee members.
Provide statistical information and related data on curriculum matters for the provost/and or President’s Office as requested.
Responsible for development and active management of curriculum tracking system detailing progress of new and revised curriculum changes throughout the formal review and approval process.
Prepare and disseminate approved Curricular Actions listings all faculty and appropriate campus personnel.
Author BOT Program Approval memos and resolutions for President’s review on Provost’s behalf.
Manage circulation process of External Program Announcements from other NJ Universities to Deans for appropriate review and comment.
Oversee workload of Program Associate for Curriculum in gathering responses and making follow-up inquiries as appropriate; manage and supervise the workload of student workers when applicable.
Direct preparation of Provost' s response correspondence within established deadlines for each program announcement submitted and function as Provost's curricular liaison with Registrar and Registrar office staff on curricular implementation matters.
Revise and develop an online Guide to Curricular Approval Process (aka "Curriculum Handbook") with goals toward creation of a dashboard available to all faculty.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
Minimum of five years of professional experience within higher education in fields directly related to the functions of the position.
Faculty experience including teaching, committee responsibilities or research.
Knowledge of State of NJ Office of Secretary of Higher Education regulations and processes related to curriculum.
Skilled in cultural competency and the ability to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with both individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines and continually prioritize changing project tasks and deliverables.
PREFERRED:
PhD or EdD from an accredited university in a related field.
Empathic listening, problem solving, and conflict resolution abilities.
Skilled in working collaboratively with a team as well as independently.
Knowledge of Student Information Systems such as Banner, Workday.
Experience with Curriculum Management Software, course and program catalogs and curriculum data in SIS.
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to this area of responsibility.
Ability to identify and incorporate continuous changes in federal and state policies and procedures, ensuring University Compliance.
