Senior Director of Development and External Affairs
Job Title:                   Senior Director of Development and External Affairs Status:                       Exempt, Full Time Reports to:                ASYMCA San Diego Executive Director Salary:                       $110,000 to $130,000 DOE Location:                   San Diego, CA JOB SUMMARY The Senior Director of Development and External Affairs will be responsible for Fundraising, Donor Relations, Community Engagement, Marketing activities, Media Engagement and support to Special Events at the ASYMCA San Diego branch. This position will report to the ASYMCA San Diego Executive Director.  The Senior Director of Development and External Affairs will administer and manage all aspects of the individual, government and foundation giving to include donor acknowledgement, prospect research, database management, direct mail campaigns, annual giving, donor cultivation and stewardship. The Senior Director of Development and External Affairs will lead all fundraising strategies, high value donor engagement, Community Engagement, long term planning, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) , Marketing, Communications, Special Event support and Gift Giving Policy Standards, as well as advice on all aspects of fundraising.  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Evening and weekend work may be required.   + Work to develop fundraising departments budget, SOP’s , specific outcomes, and an evaluation framework to assess the strengths of fundraising initiatives and identify areas for improvement  + Participates in strategic planning, goal development, and assessment of effectiveness that are in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization. + Responsible for the gift acknowledgement process to include database management, time response, and cultivation to increase donor retention and support + Responsible for individual donor research, cultivation and stewardship + Create and implement direct mail campaigns and annual giving campaign + Create and give presentations as well as site tours to groups about ASYMCA SD mission and programs, activities and benefits to help engage new audiences and expand awareness as well as the donor base. + Responsible for government and foundation grants management + Participates in strategic planning, goal development, and assessment of fundraising strategies     + Work collaboratively with various departments, and with military and civilian organizations, to provide fundraising in support of high quality programs/events which benefit military members and their families + Communicate ASYMCA, mission, programs, and Special Events with participants and external stakeholders to gain community support + Manage budget line items within the Development Department pertaining to individual giving & foundation & government grants   + Create customized reports as needed and other duties as assigned + Supervise, assist and help to train the team of 6 of staff members running Development, Marketing and Community Events. INTERACTION This position will exchange information with donors, potential donors, program participants, volunteers, community partners, media, local leaders, other Non-Profits, ASY Board of Managers, and staff at San Diego as well as introducing ASYMCA to the greater San Diego community. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide direct and full scope supervisory responsibilities to assigned staff members, volunteers and others, as applicable. EDUCATION/YEARS EXPERIENCE • Minimum:  B.A. degree from an accredited university or college with an emphasis in fundraising, communications, marketing, or related field or comparable course of study, and a minimum of 7 years’ experience in either fundraising and/or working in a similar or related capacity for a nonprofit organization. • Preferred:   Master’s Degree from an accredited university or college in Communication Studies, Marketing, Non-Profit Management, MBA, MPA or comparable course of study preferred.  Eight or more years’ experience in a position requiring similar skill sets. California Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE). Experience in military service, fundraising, supervision of staff, graphic design, sales, or management is highly desirable. Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration of this position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES + Professional knowledge of nonprofit organizational practices + A professional demeanor with an aptitude for analytical thinking and problem solving + Responsible, well organized, and demonstrates initiative + Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Excel, Microsoft Word, Publisher, Social Media, and contact management programs such as Virtuous + Must be accurate and detail oriented, possess strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a complex and fast paced environment + Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines + Ability to work independently and collaboratively + Must have excellent customer service skills + Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational, and public speaking skills + Proven track record of fundraising success + Interest in nonprofit development and cause marketing + General knowledge of database management and ability to do data entry concisely + High level of organization and attention to detail + Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and proficient computer skills + Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines + Excellent time management skills Tools and Equipment Used Standard office equipment and machines such as telephone, personal computer, multi-function copy machine, and 10-key calculator. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the organization’s insurance carrier standards.  California Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE).
