Senior Director of Development Gilchrist
Under limited supervision, the Senior Director of Development identifies, cultivates and solicits major level gifts from prospective donors. Builds close working relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporations, and will have primary responsibility for initiatives expanding our major and planned giving program. This position manages a portfolio of donor prospects, implements major and planned gift strategies, prospect research and stewardship. In addition, this position will have supervisory responsibility for the donor services team. The role will entail initiating proposals, gathering and analyzing data on donor opportunities, and developing appropriate follow-up with a large portfolio of the major contributors to Gilchrist.

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:

10 years non- profit workplace experience working with major and principal donors and their advisors. 

Demonstrated success in leading comprehensive fundraising campaigns.

Strong leadership and management experience.

A technical background in proposal development with a proven track record of success in attracting and closing on six and seven figure gifts for healthcare, education or community organizations where fund-raising is a critically important source of revenue.

Skills:

Thorough knowledge of proposal preparation of private foundations and corporations.  Thorough knowledge, understanding and commitment to the philanthropic process.Skill in oral and written communication.Skill in using computers and a variety of personal productivity applications including databases for tracking donors and prospects.Ability to work closely with major donorsAbility to gather and analyze data, often of a complex medical or technical nature, and translate it into a persuasive and concisely written fund-raising document.Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks and multi-phase projects simultaneously from inception to completion and complete work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision.Strong ability to build cohesive partnerships and working relationships with internal and external constituents.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
 

Assists Chief Philanthropy Officer in design, implementation and deployment of fundraising plans meeting needs outlined in Gilchrist’s strategic plan.  Provides strategic direction to staff to meet annual fundraising goals through annual fund outreach, events outreach, and major and principal level solicitation and grant outreach. Serves as lead fundraiser with a portfolio of prospects and donors to successfully solicit six and seven figure gifts to meet annual and capital fundraising goals.  Maintains strong relationships with major and principal donors to renew their support.Prepares a variety of written communication materials to inform, solicit, and acknowledge gifts and grants from major donors and prospective major donors including planned giving.  Develops strategies for identification, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors.Manages the Philanthropy Department planned giving website hosted by Crescendo.Has supervisory responsibility for the donor services staff and manages all policies and procedures regarding gift processing, data entry, and donor database.Plans, organizes and assists all fundraising campaigns for all Gilchrist   programs and facilities.Partners with finance team to present accurate and timely financial reporting to donors.Prepares a monthly Philanthropy Department financial dashboard for the Finance Department.Participates in executive and committee meetings as assigned. Works closely and collaborates with the GBMC Foundation in all aspects of donor identification and solicitation.Contributes to the development and design of all external publications including the newsletter, the annual report, direct mail solicitations, donor impact reports, planned giving mailings and other brochures.Assists in all activities for major fund-raising events, including Gilchrist Ball,Music Therapy All You Need is Love and Taste of Howard County.  Works closely with members of the executive leadership team and programmatic leaders on developing major gift solicitation strategies and stewardship opportunities for the grateful patient community.Develops, implements and ensures achievement of short and long term strategic and fundraising goals.      Develops and adheres to an annual revenue and expense budget that supports the organization’s needs for temporarily and permanently restricted funds.Manages human resources within established guidelines and the personnel budget.  Maintains employee competencies and monitors and reviews the work performance of direct report all staff.Works as the Philanthropy Liaison to the Veteran Volunteer Task Force and manages fundraising efforts for the annual Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans event..Assists the Gilchrist volunteer representative for the GBMC HealthCare Volunteer Advisory Board.Presenter at monthly Gilchrist employee orientation to provide an overview of the work of the Philanthropy Department.

Pay Range

$84,732.81 - $152,519.07

Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
