Responsibilities

The Senior Leader of Hospital Coding and HIM is responsible for the strategic oversight, direction, and performance of inpatient and outpatient coding operations across the organization's hospital-based departments. This executive role ensures that all inpatient coding practices align with federal regulations, industry standards, and organizational goals, with a focus on data accuracy, quality, compliance, and revenue integrity. The role also leads broader regional acute care revenue cycle functions in collaboration with key partners, supporting enterprise performance and innovation.

Lead and manage inpatient and outpatient coding operations across a large, multi-entity health systemDevelop and implement strategies to optimize coding accuracy, productivity, and complianceEnsure inpatient coding aligns with all federal regulations and coding standards (e.g., ICD-10-CM/PCS, MS-DRGs).
Partner with technical teams, compliance, revenue cycle, and clinical teams to promote collaboration and consistency.Oversee performance metrics and workflow efficiency, including audit response and corrective action planning.Identify process improvement opportunities, including technology and automation solutions.Stay informed on industry changes, payer policies, and regulatory updates impacting inpatient coding.Lead regional acute care revenue cycle functions and drive operational performance in partnership with Accretive Health.Manage revenue cycle performance goals and metrics for the region; deliver regular updates and action plans to ministry and regional CFOs and Finance VPs.Manage Service Level Agreements and vendor relationships; cultivate partnerships with managed care organizations to ensure favorable outcomes.Assess market trends and operational challenges, developing innovative solutions to meet emerging needs.Evaluate revenue cycle operations for quality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance, eliminating inefficiencies and redundancies.
Requirements

Education:

High School diploma equivalency with 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 3 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management.
Additional Preferences Credentialed with CCS, RHIA, or RHIT.6–8 years of inpatient coding leadership experience within a large health system.Strong expertise in inpatient coding, revenue integrity, and HIM best practices.Experience with Solventum, PwC SMART, and other coding applications is preferred.
