Senior Director of Planned Giving

The Sr. Director provides leadership, expertise and direction for the Planned Giving program as the in-house expert dedicated to planned giving. The Sr. Director is responsible for leading and executing all planned giving activities including marketing, developing and closing planned gifts, stewarding planned giving donors, supporting the development team, and implementing and maintaining a cohesive marketing, communication and public education initiative for planned gifts.  
 
This role will create significant impact on philanthropic revenue generation to support the campaign through a renewed focus on planned and deferred giving. 

Essential Functions:

Plan and direct the University’s program for generating support through planned, blended and deferred gifts.  Work collaboratively with the Advancement team and campus partners to ensure a robust and successful planned giving program across the University.  Serve as in-house expert on all deferred giving vehicles, state and federal regulations for the planned giving program.  Provide technical expertise to donors and staff regarding the tax and financial aspects and consequences of various planned giving programs to both the donor and the University. Manage and participate in identifying, cultivating, and structuring planned gift arrangements, and facilitate and ensure closing and stewardship of individual planned gifts. This includes managing a personal portfolio of 40-60 planned giving prospects and equipping and coaching the Development team to pursue planned gift opportunities, assisting them in the design and implementation of individualized prospect strategies.   Ensure professional and timely follow-up on all inquiries regarding planned gifts or requests for planned giving support.  Ensure Development team has technical knowledge sufficient to engender confidence during interactions with donors and their legal and financial advisors. Develop, manage and implement training and coaching to maximize the team’s ability to identify, cultivate, structure gift arrangements, close and steward individual planned gifts. Sr. Director will supervise one direct report. Direct and oversee implementation and maintenance of a cohesive marketing, communication and public education campaign including newsletters, topical brochures, seminar/ public speaking opportunities, and collaborative marketing. The above statements describe the job’s essential responsibilities and requirements.  They are not an exhaustive list of the duties that may be assigned to job incumbents.
