Job Overview: The Senior Director of Strategic Finance, Financial Planning & Analysis is a strategic role working across IRC’s business units and operations. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this person leads the team that will develop, plan and lead the budgeting processes for all of IRC’s work, working closely with other senior Finance leaders and stakeholders across the organization. In addition, this team provides financial analysis and management reporting that allows budget holders to deliver to their budgets, and helps the CFO, CEO and the Leadership Board make strategic decisions around resources allocation that enables the delivery of IRC’s strategy.
The position manages a team of 5, and has matrix oversight of a further 5 employees. It is a key member of the Global Finance Leadership Team, together with leaders from Controllership, Treasury, Financial Operations and Program Finance.
Major Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership and Business Partnering• Support the Chief Financial Officer in leading the development and implementation of the organization’s multi-year strategy by providing clear financial analysis of the organization’s resource allocation• Support the development of, and implement, strategies to ensure the effective performance of the Financial Planning & Analysis function across the organization.• Understand, review and implement optimizations to the policies, processes and tools required to best deliver the organization’s strategic and financial planning capabilities• Build strong relationships with the IRC’s Functional and Business Unit Leaders to understand their major strategic priorities, and use this to inform optimal resource allocation• Contribute to the continuing maturation of Finance’s strategy function over time.
Planning & Analysis• Develop a rolling, multi-year financial model and plan for all of IRC• Manage the financial forecasting, analytic, financial KPIs and other decision support processes and tools to support IRC leadership and the leadership of various operating units.• Develop and drive financial forecast and analysis processes.• Provide CFO and IRC leaders with financial planning and financial analysis that facilitate risk management and long-term vision.• Review and provide thoughtful business driven commentary to reporting used for financial management• Execute on financial process improvements by building and maintaining financial tools to perform analysis and modeling.• Support Head of Finance, CRRD and Head of Finance, RAI with financial planning and analysis for IRC’s program functions• Work closely with the External Relations team to support financial analysis of IRC’s private fundraising activities• In partnership with Finance Operations and Technology teams, lead the digitalization of the Financial Planning & Analysis function, delivering more accurate and faster financial forecasts, reports and dashboards. • Collaborate with IRC Leadership Team and Finance Lead Team on strategic finance activities, including investment analysis, operational reviews and special projects as required.
Forecasting• Spearhead the development of the annual budget & reforecasts for the organization, properly capturing and allocating funds and expenses.• Oversee the creation of the forecasting calendar, guidelines and tools for use by program and support units in the annual budget and reforecast cycles for current year requirements.• Develop the organization’s budget for IRC’s Leadership Board and Finance Committee.• Reconcile to and consolidate department budgets in the overall operating budget.
Financial Management Reporting• Produce organizational dashboards and commentary on key financial metrics.• Oversee the team’s review of monthly reports to monitor activity (revenue and expenses) against budget for IRC overall including functional areas and geographies.• Prepare the fringe benefit rate calculation annually for onward submission to USAID.
Other• Lead and manage a team of 5-10 Financial Planning and Analysis professionals, including matrix oversight of the External Relations FP&A team• In coordination with other Finance leadership, maintain an active overview of the Finance department’s work, supervising priority issues and ensuring effective and coordinated support related to opportunities, challenges, and proposed next steps.• Play a leadership role in the broader Finance Leadership Team and across global Finance by supporting the CFO to create a team culture based on close collaboration, respect, feedback and transparency across the Finance team.• Promote a positive, collaborative, efficient team working environment where team members enjoy working with each other and feel able to do impactful work and grow professionally over time.• Take personal responsibility for the success of the team’s work, promoting and standing behind their successes, and transparently acknowledge and act on areas for improvement. • Work with the CFO to assess the financial training needs relating to budget procedures and forecasting within the organization and provide the necessary training to staff.• Participate as needed in special projects.
Key Working RelationshipsBased at IRC Headquarters in New York, the Senior Director, Financial Planning & Analysis will report to theChief Financial Officer and will work closely with the members of the senior Finance Leadership team, Programs, External Relations and other functional areas across IRC’s Leadership Board.
Job RequirementsEducation:• Bachelors Degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance• MBA or MA in Accounting or Finance highly desirable
Work Experience:• Minimum 12 years’ experience in Finance with increasing responsibility and complexity, including financial accounting, financial analysis, financial planning roles that require substantial cross-departmental collaboration to deliver ambitious goals, with a track record of high performance.• Minimum 7 years’ experience in Financial Planning & Analysis for large (>$500m), complex and preferably international non-profit or private sector organizations.• Significant experience working with, and influencing, senior leadership (C-suite) to develop strategic plans, optimize resource allocation, and drive end-to-end system improvements.• Experience with Financial databases and web-based reporting and visualization tools, e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Adaptive Insights, etc.• Experience with Financial Planning systems (utilization and implementation), e.g., Oracle Hyperion, MS D365, SAP, etc.• Experience in managing, coaching and building teams, both directly and indirectly.• Strategy and problem-solving experience, including accurately diagnosing business challenges and implementing effective solutions with timely and efficient performance metrics.
