Senior E&I Technician

Position Overview

This position will provide support to the Mining team and will be responsible for higher level Electrical, Instrumentation and Control faultfinding. This position will also provide software support, develop, and execute new ideas and contributing to improvement / problem solving. As such, it is essential that the person filling this position must be able to function as an effective team member.


Primary Responsibilities

The incumbent will be required to do standby and work overtime. Software support i.e., Adroit SCADA and Mitsubishi PLC, Honeywell DCS. Execution of Routine Work Maintenance (RWM) plans. High level faultfinding. Maintenance installation of conveyor safety devices, Unipro 4’s, Weight meters, densitometers, flow meters, pressure and level transmitters. Assist electrical personnel with faultfinding and other minor electrical tasks. Siemens and ABB drives faultfinding experience.


Qualifications & Experience

National Diploma Instrumentation (N6/T3/S4). 3-5 years operational experience in maintenance within a heavy industry environment. Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and SCADA. Valid code RSA driver’s license (Code B / Code 8) – preferably code C1 or above.


Knowledge & Skills

A working knowledge of NOSA Health & Safety principles, ISO standards and Continuous Improvement. Working knowledge of SANS 10142-1 (Low-Voltage Installations). Experienced with PA UNIPRO for Densities and Weightometers. Experienced with SIMOCODE’s and VSD’s. Sound knowledge of SAP Plant Management (SAP PM). Good communication skills. The successful candidate should have a sound knowledge of and experience in all aspects of field. instrumentation e.g., pressure, flow, temperature, analytical, level etc. Project planning (MS Projects) and project commissioning would be preferred.

Ensure a healthy environment is maintained and adhere to MHSA requirements. Implement and maintain practices to produce safe quality low-cost product. Comply with Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality (SHEQ) standards and Company Standard. Operating Practices (SOP’s). Work diligently to meet performance manage plan targets and Company Values. Identify, monitor, and respond to defects and / or sub-standard equipment performance and any other improvement opportunities. Initiate continuous improvement initiatives leading to cost saving opportunities whilst keeping abreast of new developments and technology within the specialist field. Conduct research work to initiate process changes. Liaise with other sections; manage projects and technology to enhance operations. Accept responsibility for supporting production departments by adhering to production- and services maintenance schedules. Attend to breakdowns whilst maintaining set production targets. Ensure effective water and energy management, the optimal use of physical assets and available resources (both people and equipment). Assume responsibility for the quality of maintenance work conducted within the mining area. Conduct troubleshooting to identify root cause for substandard operating conditions.
