Senior Electrical Designer

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to join our Chicago, IL office.  As a Senior designer, you will be responsible for providing trade specific system design; layout; calculations; and other related services including coordination with the designs of other internal and external teams.

Job Responsibilities

As a Senior Electrical Designer, you will be responsible for directing and leading the design team of a wide number of projects.

Additional responsibilities include:

Assume responsible charge for the overall economic well being of the assigned 
projects. Conduct business development activities.  Conducts due diligence reports that comply with group and company standards and procedures. Establishes design standards, specifications, and criteria for projects Designs large projects, prepares reports and specifications, and provides a very high level of technical leadership. Establishes project budgets and schedules. Networks within SHG and outside. Participates in QA/QC process of completed work by staff. Participates in various trade organizations and prepare presentations. Performs “Engineer of Record” duties for projects. Performs calculations, equipment selection, equipment specification, system design, system layout, field investigation, and construction administration. Performs staff resource management and review. Produces drawings consistent with client requirements and standards.  Provides consulting engineering services including preparation of due diligence reports, gap analyses, and feasibility reports. Pursues continuing education. Represents Firm in all interactions with clients, contractors, architects and other project team members

Job Requirements

Successful candidates must have a current PE registration. Someone with a history of working with projects such as Aviation, Critical Facilities, Healthcare, and Commercial projects would be a good fit for this dynamic role.

Additional requirements include:

High school diploma with trade school certification in CAD Mechanical, Plumbing or Electrical fields or AA degree in Mechanical, Plumbing or Electrical fields relevant experience or equivalent work experience. 7 – 10 years of relevant experience in MEP field. Advanced skills with the MSN Office Suite including: Word, Outlook, Excel, Access and PowerPoint as well as Adobe Acrobat/Reader Effective dispute resolution skills Able to perform calculation for his/her trade to support design; possess basic knowledge of systems design for various projects Knowledge of design of various systems Possess detailed knowledge of equipment from various manufacturers for the trade and able to make proper selections with/without supervision of Senior Designer/Engineer. Thorough understanding of all applicable codes. Thorough understanding of LEED principles and accreditation desired Understand file locations, names, layers, company pen weights and symbology per company CAD standards Understanding of diagrams and details. Understanding of the construction process (Bid Process, Changer Orders, RFI’s, Addenda, Bulletins) Willingness to pursue professional development opportunities
