Roles & Responsibilities:

The Electrical Engineer, as part of the Engineering Services department at a major integrated petrochemical manufacturing facility, is responsible for the optimization, troubleshooting, and design of a wide variety of electrical equipment. This involves time in the field ensuring that the installed electrical equipment contributes to safe, environmentally sound, reliable, and profitable operations.Maintain close contact with operations, maintenance, engineering, and project development to identify and implement electrical equipment repairs and reliability improvementsDesign and specify electrical equipment such as motors, breakers, relays, generators, substations, buses, starters, transformers, and other industrial electrical equipment (480V to 230kV)Coordinate projects for new or replacement equipment among engineering, maintenance, and operationsCommissioning, startup assistance, and support of electrical systems with maintenance personnelServe as an electrical technology expert liaison between project engineers, plant maintenance, and operations personnelSupports and interfaces with business teams to maintain and improve electrical reliability while reducing maintenance costs.Participates in screening, optimization, basic design preparation for electric power systemsDevelops project scoping, design and detail specifications for electric power systemsMonitors Engineering Quality Control and leads contractor’s electrical work to ensure consistency with project specifications and guidelinesSupport preparation of Design Basis Memorandums and develop SpecificationsProvides technical support and services to operating facilitiesPerforms power systems simulations and analyses, including load flow, short circuit, motor starting and reacceleration, arc flash, transient stability and relay coordinationUpdates Company practices and specificationsApplies customer's Global Practices, Design Practices, General Information and Instructions, codes and standards in support of projects during the detailed design phaseParticipates actively in the Electrical Community of PracticeParticipates in incident investigations in support of assetsPerforms Risk Assessments and develops Equipment Strategies in support of assetsManages electrical area classification for assets within the facility supported

Required Skills (Technical Competency):

Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Electrical EngineeringDemonstrated experience in petrochemical industry with power systems as an Electrical Engineer10+ years experienced preferredDesired Skills:Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at different levels of engineering, design, maintenance, and managementAbility to work with internal customers as well as suppliers and repair facilities of electrical equipmentGood interpersonal skillsAbility to communicate effectively and clearly in both written and verbal form for the purpose of instructing others in technical matters and obtaining cooperation from various personnel.Problem solving / troubleshooting of electrical systemsKnowledge of Electrical Safety standards and Area Electrical Classification standards (API, NFPA, NEC, and NETA)Knowledge of SKM Modeling, System Studies, and CoordinationWilling to travel domestically or internationally in support of electrical equipment construction or repairsWork experience in petrochemical production units and awareness of surroundings from a safety and environmental point of view

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

Mostly Office Environments, Occasional Shop Floor involvement.Substantial amounts of telephone and computer work.Heavily Regulated Industries with strict adherence to procedures.Flexibility to meet business deadlines by staying late or arriving early.Typical 8 hour days plus lunch / 40 hour weeks / core (required) hours are 9AM to 4PMAbility to use personal transportation to visit customer locations.
