SUMMARY:

 

Performs professional-level electrical design engineering assignments of wide complexity under general direction and with considerable discretion as to work details in the design and development of systems hardware, and firmware as required. Performs modifications, analysis, specifications, design, programming, schematic capture, layout, testing, etc., as required, of hardware and firmware products. Applies industry and Tecan Systems’ standards to design tasks.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Participates in new product development and customer-specific modifications of existing products from the Tecan CAVRO® product line as well as OEM benchtop instrument development in the life science space.

 

Uses best practices and procedures to solve complex problems in the analysis, design, development, implementation, modification, and testing of electrical, electronics, and firmware used in instrumentation for the life sciences. Owns technical responsibility for major hardware subsystems and systems.

 

Drives the definition of electrical system architecture for new products.

 

Determines design approaches and parameters. Defines hardware and firmware design and testing specifications. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability requirements. Reviews vendor capability to support product development. Analyzes equipment to establish operating parameters conducts experimental tests and evaluates results.

 

Leads in the introduction of new hardware and firmware engineering practices, procedures, and tools to the group. Provides ideas to identify emerging trends in technology that could lead to further growth.

 

Participates in Risk Analysis activities for hardware and firmware products.

 

Independently drives and documents small projects as needed. Writes change orders, specifications, verification, and test procedures in conformance with applicable standards and the Tecan Quality Management System.

 

Supports existing products by addressing obsolescence issues and providing expert-line support for customer issues as needed.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

BS degree in electrical or electronics engineering, or equivalent, and a minimum of 5 years of applicable engineering experience required. Experience with either Altium Designer, OrCAD PCB, or Cadence Allegro is required, Altium Designer expertise is preferred. Experience releasing a PCBA into manufacturing is required. Experience in an ISO-9001 or 13485 environment is a plus. Experience with Biotechnology or Medical instruments is a plus. Experience designing a 4-layer PCBA with a 32-bit microprocessor and SPI and I2C buses is required. Experience with more complex boards, FPGAs, or ASICs is a plus Board bring-up experience is required. Basic project management experience, for example with MS-Project, is advantageous. Experience designing a PCBA with JTAG, Serial and CAN interfaces is required. Experience designing a PCBA with USB or Ethernet interfaces is a plus. Motion control and robotics experience is a plus. Instrumentation and system integration experience is a plus. Experience troubleshooting PCBAs is required Ability to repair boards and build cables is a plus.

 

COMPENSATION RANGE: $150,000 -185,000
