We are in search of a seasoned Senior Electrical Engineer who brings extensive expertise in designing, analysing, and assessing complex grid interconnections for power generation projects, ideally for renewable energy projects. The optimal candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of power systems including high-voltage, electrical engineering principles, and international and local standards and be able to assess safe, reliable, and cost-effective designs and implementation grid interconnections infrastructure.

This is a permanent role and will offer excellent prospects for career development involving different power generation technologies, mainly renewable energy projects.

Role responsibilities:

1. Project Development

Understand the UK or Irish grid connection permitting processes, requirements, milestones, commissioning procedures and stakeholders. Understand the UK or Irish transmission and distribution network, stakeholders and UK or Irish Grid Code. Lead the development of conceptual and preliminary designs of transmission lines and grid interconnection infrastructure for renewable energy projects. Collaborate closely with local and international cross-functional teams, encompassing electrical, civil, and control engineers and project managers to define, draft and review Employer´s Requirements/Technical Specifications for inclusion in tender processes to appoint contractors for the design, construction and commissioning of transmission lines grid interconnection infrastructure. Provide technical support during the drafting and negotiation of construction contracts. Identify potential risks and challenges associated with transmission lines and grid connection infrastructure and propose effective mitigation measures to safeguard project success and to enhance project feasibility and bankability. Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to address technical aspects during the project lifetime.

2. Engineering

Provide engineering input related to transmission lines and grid interconnection infrastructure through various lifecycle stages including feasibility/front end engineering stages, detailed design, construction monitoring and commissioning monitoring. Review and conduct technical studies, feasibility assessments, and grid integration studies for renewable energy projects, emphasizing the efficient and reliable integration of transmission lines. Review technical schematics, specifications, drawings, calculation and any other engineering document assessing compliance with Employer´s Requirements/Technical Specifications, standards, requirements imposed by permits/authorisations and good industry practice. Conduct simulations and/or interpret methodology and results done by others using industry recognised software tools (e.g., Digsilent, PSCAD, EMTP-RV, PSS/E) for transient analyses, and load flow studies including high voltage systems. Scrutinize performance of electrical infrastructure under an array of conditions, including fault scenarios, voltage oscillations, and load fluctuations, ensuring unwavering stability and reliability. Understand and remain up to date with latest international and local standards, local regulation and good industry practices related to transmission lines and grid interconnection (e.g., IEEE, IEC, NEC).  Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and good industry practices when defining technical specifications and requirements, developing designs, reviewing designs done by other and monitoring execution of works for transmission lines and grid interconnection. Prepare and review documentation and reports detailing compliance with relevant standards for regulatory approval.

3. Construction and commissioning

Provide technical guidance and back-office support during the construction and commissioning of transmission lines and grid interconnection infrastructure. Review construction documentation including Quality Plans and associated documentation (ITPs, checklists, etc) and RAMS (Risk and Method Statements) Conduct site visits and inspections to verify construction quality, compliance with designs, specifications, standards, good industry practice and identify potential issues and non-conformities. Follow up on closure of issues and non-conformities identified on site.  Provide support for the development of a construction punch-list.  Attend Factory Inspection Test for electrical equipment related to transmission lines and grid interconnection. Review commissioning protocols and documentation
