The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Estimator to join our Electrical Construction team in Portland. In this role, you will lead estimating work with sales, engineering and operations teams. Additionally, some responsibilities you will have include:

Bid Strategies 

Includes value engineering cost savings in project estimate where appropriate. Review bid packages before submission Prepares conceptual estimates and budgets when needed.

Estimates

Responsible for reviewing general and special conditions and other front-end documents to ensure cost estimates include the effect of those conditions on the 
project. Responsible for reviewing subcontractor quotes for completeness.  Maintains current and historical construction cost and bid result databases for reference. Reviews technical specifications and plans so as to fully understand scope of work anticipated and required elements of estimate/proposal. Prepares scope letters and sends them to customers and prospective bidders. Provides technical support and assistance to various disciplines. 

Project Estimates 

Leads project estimating programs and scheduling. Responsible for project estimates based upon conceptual and/or schematic descriptions of scope for various disciplines, general construction tasks, and/or major 
design-build projects.  Implements value engineering and constructability practices within given estimates. 

Communication

Works with the Chief Estimator to identify and secure a prospective business consistent with the company’s strategy. Leads in discussions and meetings with subcontractors, vendors, architects, customers, and other personnel. Identifies and understands client and project requirements and develops a comprehensive solution set, including detailed narratives and budget spreadsheets. 

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, construction management or related field required or equivalent work experience. Eight (8) years of experience in estimating and conceptual estimating. Must have demonstrated proficiency in all responsibilities of an estimator. Must have demonstrated ability to do both conceptual estimating as well as take-off estimates. Working knowledge of Accubid, preferred Knowledge of building systems, and applications and how to successfully apply that knowledge to solve client and project requirements required. Knowledge of project Financials and reporting policies preferred. 

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

Must have demonstrated proficiency for all responsibilities of estimator. Must have demonstrated ability to do both conceptual estimating as well as take-off estimates. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, construction management or related field required or equivalent work experience. Eight (8) years of experience in estimating and conceptual estimating for projects $15 million dollars and larger is required. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel and Outlook required; working knowledge of SharePoint preferred. Working knowledge of Trimble/Quickpen and/or Quotesoft estimating software and database required. Knowledge of building systems, applications and how to successfully apply that knowledge to solve client and project requirements required. Knowledge of project Financials and reporting policies preferred.

The pay range for this position is $84,240 - $130,680 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
