Your Opportunity as the Senior Engineer, Projects
The Senior Engineer, Projects will lead the execution of capital projects. In addition, primary responsibilities include developing scopes of work, user requirements, project plans, budgets, and cost controls.
Location: Topeka, KS manufacturing plant
Work Arrangements: 100% on-site
Willingness to work off shift (including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays) and flow to the work as neededReports to: Plant Engineer
In this role you will:
Write project charters and funding requestsEnsure that all phases of the Capital Project Delivery process such as Front-End Engineering and Start-Up Management are followedLead the development of project cost estimates and manage projects to meet the budget estimates 80% of the timeDevelop and manage project schedules to meet project objectives 95% of the time; this includes coordinating and monitoring schedule updates in conjunction with engineering and construction resourcesEstablish project practices and procedures including ones related to safety, quality, cost, and scheduleManage project changes and the decision-making processDrive resolution of key technical issues while ensuring all Smucker engineering and code requirements are metClearly communicate project status, outages, and watch-outs as the primary link between the project team and upper managementUnderstand key roles of Smucker employees and contractors, and mesh the two for a seamless project executionLead a multidisciplinary team to successfully execute projectsWork with operations and product development to determine internal customer needsProvide support in the areas of project budget, purchasing, and fixed asset systemsEnsure that projects are documented in accordance with good engineering practices and provide technology transfer to the operations teamSupport development of Engineering Instruction (EI) packages for construction; review EIs for completeness and correctnessMonitor project installations to ensure correctness and compliance with JMS standards and policiesProvide direct feedback to engineering resources, contractors, and suppliers to resolve issues promptly to minimize impacts to product quality and/or ongoing operationsSupport the development and execution of Commissioning, Qualification & Verification (CQV) plans for relevant projectsSupport startup efforts for relevant projects by aiding the operations team to identify recommended spare parts, develop operating procedures and training materials, and complete operator/maintenance qualificationsThe Right Place for You

Bachelor’s of Science degree in EngineeringA Minimum of 2 years of experience in project management/construction managementStrong documentation skills – ability to interpret vendor supplied documentation and create new documents as neededAbility to multi-task and effectively manage multiple projects at one timeAdditional skills and experience that we think would make someone successful in this role:
An understanding of the Capital Delivery ProcessProficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks or other 3D CAD softwarePrevious experience in a food (human and / or pet) or beverage manufacturing environmentAre a certified Project Management Professional or registered Professional EngineerPrior contractor management experienceLearn more about working at Smucker:
