Senior Engineer, Systems Engineering, DNS
Overview Job Purpose The Senior Engineer, Systems Engineering, Domain Name System (DNS) is responsible for creating and maintaining availability and high-performance in mixed UNIX and Windows development, non-production, and production environments. This individual works as part of a results-oriented, service-delivery team and assists configuration analysts, release engineers, developers, and operations teams. Additionally, the Systems Engineer performs root cause analysis of problems, selects, and implements automation tools, and actively participates in deeply technical discourse. We are seeking a candidate with extensive experience in managing and deploying large-scale DNS systems. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of DNS protocols and a proven track record in DNS configuration, management, and migrations. Responsibilities Assist in the design and implementation of DNS systems at an enterprise level, ensuring high availability and performance. Implement and oversee IP Address Management (IPAM) solutions. Configure and manage DNS zones, including domain transfers and DNS migrations. Utilize advanced DNS techniques to optimize system performance and security. Maintain a thorough understanding of DNS protocols and industry best practices. Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python to streamline DNS operations. Investigate and adopt new technologies/tools as needs arise Respond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environment Provide technical analysis, resolve problems, and propose solutions Provide support to, and coordinate with, developers, operations staff, release engineers, and end-users Educate and mentor team members and operations staff Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle priorities effectively. Ensure meticulous attention to detail and maintain excellent organizational skills. Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve project goals and maintain system integrity. Participate in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours support Knowledge and Experience 5+ years of hands-on experience working with ISC Bind or similar technologies. Proven experience in deploying and managing IPAM solutions. Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale DNS systems. Expertise in DNS zone configuration and management. Experience with domain transfers and DNS migrations. In-depth knowledge of DNS protocols. Proficiency in advanced DNS techniques. Solid experience coding with any combination of Python, Ruby, Bourne, Perl, Java, APIs, and others Experience with automation/configuration management using either Puppet, Chef, Ansible or an equivalent Familiarity with git, subversion, Jenkins, or equivalent Demonstrable knowledge of multi-tiered, highly available, and resilient application design Knowledge of horizontal and vertical scaling for performance and high availability Top-tier analytics and problem solving Ability to perform network analysis with tools, tcpdump, wireshark, tshark Ability to work in a service-oriented team environment Project Management, organization, and time management Customer focused, and dedicated to the best possible user experience Communicate effectively with both technical and business resources Desired Degree in engineering discipline or equivalent experience in Systems Engineering 5+ years of experience with RedHat and/or Windows operating systems Intermediate understanding of application and server virtualization Schedule This role offers work from home flexibility of one day per week.
